Good fellas.

Funny movie. Utterly loved it on first watching but it seemed to lose something when I tried rewatching it a few times over the years. Maybe it's the heavy narrated aspect which it uses to tell the story. Odd though.

I love Goodfellas, one of my favourite Scorsese movies along with The Departed. New York mafioso style movies are one of my top genres and I just love the humour in Goodfellas and how slick it is.

I watched the above two with my girlfriend a few weeks ago because I'm introducing her to gangster movies. Goodfellas was the first one we watched because it's more light hearted. Last week we watched The Godfather Pt1 and she really enjoyed that too. Nearly 3 hours long and still stands up to repeat viewings, what an absolute classic.

I should be saving (I say that every time) but I went on a bit of a Blu-Ray kick.

Expect to hear impressions of the follow films at some point:

Donnie Darko
Waking Life
A Scanner Darkly
Brain Damage
Frankenhooker *cough*

Am currently on a Tom Hardy buying frenzy and picked up Warrior, The Revenant (a new version of) Bronson and the rather underrated Legend a few days ago. Next up I will be buying Locke and at some point I just have to buy Star Trek - Nemesis simply because Tom's physical transformation from his role as Shinzon to now playing the likes of Mad Max and Venom has to be seen to be believed. Boy come far.

Oh and I hope Tom Hardy fans have a new found appreciation for RocknRolla too because - Handsome Bob. Looking forward to Dunkirk actually.

Keeping on the Tom Hardy theme: I've been double dipped on Mad Max: Fury Road.
Miller (And The Guardian, of all places) made a compelling argument to get the Black & Chrome version of the film. Not that I really need an excuse to watch the film again, but I like the idea of revisiting it in a whole new style.

Reminds me that I'm also looking forward to seeing Logan in B&W. Haha. The real question is if I do what I did with The Mist and completely ignore the colour version. :-k

Said I wasn't going to start re-buying films that I already own in 4K.

Just ordered Dredd, Leon, The Fifth Element and Starship Troopers on UHD. Because, sod it, they're among my favourite films and the better they look, the happier I am.

Will be buying Blade Runner and Terminator 2 in 4K soon as well. I mean, if I'm spending disgusting money on old films on new formats, why stop now?

You'd be surprised what much a bump in resolution can do for older movies!

Just a quick heads up my local Morrison's are currently selling fairly new blu ray movies for just £10 each so I picked up John Wick 2 and Hacksaw Ridge for £20. Quite the Bargain. Perhaps check if your own local store is doing the same.

Supposedly they'll be bundled into a box set in Europe as well.

This is a thing.
This is a thing I'm going to buy.

(1080p trailer for 4K films. Really sells the medium!)

In related news, picked up Prometheus on UHD for cheap from Amazon. Will be getting Valerian next week.
Oh, my poor taste in films.

I'm surprisingly out of touch with this. What's needed to play 4K movies. What res is blu ray?
I stream or download everything that I don't consider the physical copies anymore.

If I understand correctly, bluray is full HD 1080p, 4k is 4 times that. To play 4k you need an ultra-hd bluray player and obviously a 4k display.

This might help mate - http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinion/what-is-ultra-hd-blu-ray-2934823

Two new UHD pick ups.

Atomic Blond, which I've not seen before, but if it's love of neon and cityscapes is anything like John Wick, it'll look great in the format.

The other is Terminator 2.
Have you ever wondered what T2 would look like if it was made yesterday? Well, old Cameron has done a bit of a George Lucas, going back and touching the film up to a mirror sheen. I'm sure purists will balk at the changes, like the fixed visual effects, the very digital looking film quality (no grain, but not waxy like that Predator transfer, thank goodness!) and more "dramatic" HDR colours.
For me, the increase in resolution alone makes it worthwhile. You can count the hairs on Arnie's chest. I mean, that alone is absolutely worth the cost of going 4k. :-k

With Disney buying Fox's film division today, if you like getting digital copy backups with your Blu Rays as I do since I've organised them now (and it's sometimes convenience to just stream your favourite clips at the computer rather than unboxing the disc), keep an eye out in case they get deleted and re-issued without them as happened with all the MCU films.

That doesn't affect studio co-productions so Spider Man Homecoming's Blu Ray has the digital backup but it may affect the final finished X-Men film Dark Phoenix, The New Mutants and Deadpool 2 when they hit Blu Ray next year/2019.

With Prometheus the digital copy used iTunes, hopefully that's been moved to UltraViolet for Alien Convenant which seems the most popular.
