I liked it. I seem to say that about a lot of films nowadays. Said the same about Star Trek 2, and forget I even went to see it sometimes.
As Quietman said, they made the usually boring Superman interesting. Even if it did go on for ages and get really blurry at times (even in 2D).

Interesting adaptation:
Spoiler: show
Obviously he has no underpants or spit curl. New Superman theme tune. Perry White is Perry Black and there's a girl instead of Jimmy Olsen. No Kryptonite, instead atmosphere. A scout ship instead of the Fortress Of Solitude. No explanation for why his suit has a cape, but I think Zod had a cape at one point. I like that Krypton had a war/revolt as well as the explanation for the planet dying etc. Barely any Clark Kent, and he didn't seem to change his demeanour or stature for that. Couple of LexCorp vans in the background, but he'll feel a bit easy to beat up after a Kryptonian warrior. Lois actually did some investigative journalism! Where Superman used his laser eyes on her wound felt a bit horror movie.

Zod was funny-looking, couldn't take him seriously half the time.
Actually liked Jonathan Kent.
There was a lot of collateral damage wasn't there, Supes?
He's ridiculously buff though. Nice tits.
Superman hitchhiking reminds me of the sad theme from the Incredible Hulk.
A big super-saiyan fight? Floating things that make faces out of smaller metal things? Lawrence fishburne and Harry Lennix? The Matrix sequels are returning!

p.s. BABY PENIS.

Alien chicks are hawt!!

Was it just my imagination or did they make Superman's face look a bit Christopher Reeves in some of the scenes?
Spoiler: show
The bit where he's flying up the spaceships gravity whatzit, his face seems to morph in Reeves for a few moments.

You saw that too? I thought it was just me having a Senior Moment or needing an urgent visit to Specsavers for a refund.

Yeah I thought that as well.
IMO :P  :P  :P

The one saving grace of this movie...

Image

The rest just really didn't do it for me to be honest and the last half hour or so made me want to get up and walk out. Just fucking end already...cue more extended fights and mayhem.

If I'm completely honest I prefer Superman Returns.

My favourite scene by far...

Spoiler: show
Kevin Costner and the tornado...lump in my throat right there. Shame the rest of the movie had the emotional impact of zero.

Really? REALLY?

Spoiler: show
"No Clark! Whatever you do, don't run at the speed of a regular man to either save this dog or my life!"

Just, no.

On the plus side, it shat all over Superman Returns, because at least this time there was something other than an inanimate rock to fight against and the villain's evil scheme was to wipe out all of humanity rather than some 80s plot to build condos or some bollocks like that. And Superman almost had emotions at some point!

Overall I enjoyed it, but a lot of it was fairly awful.

Spoiler: show
I wasn't a big fan of the 20 minutes of The Clone Wars at the beginning.

I really liked the joy when he starts flying instead of it all being boring.

It's coming through the RSS feeds!

It all got way too carried away with the destruction in the end. Superhuman vs human is much more fun than superhuman mirror match, especially when they drag it on as long as they did. Mindlessly smashing up a city when doing absolutely no damage to each other is just stupid. That had to be millions dead, thousands more with each skyscraper they were smashing through - but then 4 people in a train station is where superman draws the line.

Also did anyone else feel like something was ...wrong with Zod's face or neck, like there was cg there for the whole film?

Warner Bros. has just revealed plans for their own DC Cinematic Universe with the announcement of a Man of Steel sequel. Snyder took the stage at the Warner Bros. panel to announce something and brought up actor Harry Lennix to read a special message.

"I want you to remember Clark," Lennix said, "in all the years to come. In all your private moments. In all the years to come, my hand at your throat. I want you to remember, the one man who beat you."

And with that Snyder unveiled the logo below...

Well now a sequel is coming, like World War Z, I'll have to try to make the time to catch it instead of leaving it to Blu Ray.

Please for the love of god stop making super fucking hero movies! I'm guessing the last 40 minutes of this will be Gotham getting trashed and Christopher Nolan's great effort being ruined.

He's in the new Robocop movie as well isn't he? The man needs to speak to his agent.

Snyder attempts to clarify why Superman & Zod fucking up everything around them had a secret hidden meaning...

“I wanted the movie to have a mythological feeling. In ancient mythology, mass deaths are used to symbolize disasters. In other countries like Greece and Japan, myths were recounted through the generations, partly to answer unanswerable questions about death and violence. In America, we don’t have that legacy of ancient mythology. Superman (who first appeared in ‘Action Comics’ in 1938) is probably the closest we get. It’s a way of recounting the myth.”
