Anyone seen the new Star Trek, the new Orville thing (star trek spoof thing) or the Philip K Dick short this Sunday?

Are they any good before I go getting copies of them all...

Is there anywhere we can watch The Orville in the UK besides torrenting it? I want to give it a chance, although I'm really not expecting to enjoy it based on the trailer.

This second season of The Expanse is pretty good. Much more into it this season. The first season was a bit hard to keeping plugging at.

The new Star Trek is out on Netflix soon I think also. Not a clue what it's about.

I've purposely avoided most of the trailers, so all I know is that it's another prequel to Kirk's adventures, set about ten years prior. It's got Klingons in it, and from what I remember of the reaction to the first trailer, the Star Trek community is up in arms about absolutely everything.

Yeah, I'll watch it, but early indications aren't great. Intriguingly, it supposedly takes place in the 'original' timeline, rather than the alternate timeline created in the recent Star Trek films.

The new StarTrek and season 2 of Stranger Things are top of my list at the moment.

Season 2 of The Expanse and a couple of other things will keep me going until then.

Only 20 minutes into the first episode of The Mist and I can already tell it's going to be a steaming bottle of piss. But I'll soldier on an see how it goes.

It's good stuff. If by good you mean soul-crushingly depressing and poignant interspersed with animal and banner gags.

The penultimate episode I watched last night... no spoilers, but came away thinking 'jesus christ... just...'

Star Trek Discovery, then. First two episodes were... reasonable. It's too early to tell much other than the klingons look weird and many characters made stupid choices, but it was enjoyable enough. My concern is that it feels like they're heading into one long plot line for the series, whereas Star Trek tends to work best with independent episodes unrelated to a larger story. I'm not sure we're going to get that.

Acceptable for a pilot episode; needs to do more as the season progresses.

I remember watching the rollerskating bit when I was a wee lad. It's absolutely ridiculous what he agreed to do.

I enjoyed the first episodes of ST:Discovery. I hate the new Klingon designs; I don't see what was wrong with simply modernising the TNG-era ones, but it's nothing I can't live with. Almost everything else though was pretty good.

I think Trek works best as a mix of separate stories and arcing plotlines; Enterprise did this fairly well in the final season, and I hope Discovery continues it. I fully expect it to, given the prevailing style of serial dramas these days. I just hope that they don't focus on spectacle every episode, and they do some actual exploring rather than trying to thwart the Klingons every week.
