I cheered :D
Retire though? Nahh, maybe get a couple of closure fights, gatekeeper a bit but stop title chasing.

Damn fine card that (so I was half right with my prediction).
Assuming you've just finished watching the replay (as I have) I'm sure I don't need to mention Aldo/McGrgor is on the 11th in two weeks time.

Still a good fight but no where near what Connor and Aldo would have been. Interesting to see how Connor will deal with a proper wrestler, and someone who has knock out power to boot. Still going to watch, but not nearly as hyped as I once was.

I will be at Grillstock.
Pretty sure I missed an Aldo fight for this very same reason last year.....

End of the day, it's still a damn good fight, and one I expect McG to smash his way through.
If they'd chosen Edgar not Mendes.......that might be different...

189 is almost here......

Reminder, I will not be watching this live.
I may not be watching this until Monday.....Spoiler tags in full effect for results if you feel the need to post please ;)

McG sells this card on his own, at this point in time, if he was fighting ANYONE in the top 5 this would do well.
Yes, it should have been Aldo, but I find Mendes the closer and far more interesting matchup. This will determine if McGregor is king, or just another superb striker who gets wrestle-fucked (my money is on the former).
Lawler and Roidy Mac is an interesting one. Lawler won last time and knocked Rory on his arse (probably sealed that fight tbh) but I think it'll be slow and controlled by Rory until he finds an opening.
The issue with that is Lawler might just give it to him so he can crack him in the face.
Bermudez/Stephens should be wild as fuck, someone is getting KO'd (probably Jeremy)
Thatch is going to push Gunnar and push him hard. And as soon as it's clear that Thatch has the striking and power it'll be takedown and sub and Nelson will take it. Unless that push ends it. Which it might. I hope.
Pickett/Almeida should be fun but who cares the top 4 already provide too much excitement for me to handle....

Prelim highlights for me.
Brown, Swick, Pendred maybe getting knocked out.

Why does Grillstock have to be this weeknd!!!!

Main Card
Chad Mendes vs. Conor McGregor
Robbie Lawler (c) vs. Rory MacDonald
Dennis Bermudez vs. Jeremy Stephens
Gunnar Nelson vs. Brandon Thatch
Brad Pickett vs. Thomas Almeida
Preliminary Card (Fox Sports 1)
Matt Brown vs. Tim Means
Mike Swick vs. Alex Garcia
Cathal Pendred vs. John Howard
Cody Garbrandt vs. Henry Briones
Preliminary Card (UFC Fight Pass)
Neil Seery vs. Louis Smolka
Yosdenis Cedeno vs. Cody Pfister

No problem. I should do picks again....but for now this will have to do.

Main Card
Chad Mendes vs. Conor McGregor - Mendez - i think despite Connors excellent stand up, Mendez is just too well round a fighter.

Robbie Lawler (c) vs. Rory MacDonald - Lawler. Rory just doesn't have that killer instinct and doesn't like getting hit, which Lawler is very good at. Lawler all day.

Dennis Bermudez vs. Jeremy Stephens - I WANT to say Stephens cause he seems like a decent chap but.... Bermudez

Gunnar Nelson vs. Brandon Thatch - Eeerr....Gunnar? I guess.

Brad Pickett vs. Thomas Almeida - Please Pickett. I like you.

Not spoiling anything here... card of the year, easily. I've never seen a card that good. Seriously. I'll not post anything more til you see it...but my god.

I'm drained. Not seen a card that good since 80.

The replay is tonight at 22:30.
I shall watch it, then go find the prelims on mma-core.

Sure I did my picks pre-Mendez so probably not got my Connor pick but the rest should have been there :)

Just can't check any site......tis hard :(

Well....lets do this chronologically :)

Brown and Means.
I love Matt Brown, the dude is a monster.
Every fight of late, he gets hurt and rallies and annihilates.

Pickett and Almeida
What a first round, hard back and forth beatings with a spot on flash KO for a finish.

Nelson and Thatch
I almost had it right :) I thought Thatch's striking would force the takedown, but Nelson set it up himself.
Typical Nelson fight, and really shows that while Thatch is scary on his feet he really needs to shore-up his sub defence and wrestling.

Burmudez and Stephens
Pickett and Almeida all over again! Back and forth with a perfectly timed knee for a finish. Great, great fight,

Lawler and MacDonald
FOTN.
Lawler looked spectacular. I think his patient game threw Rory off at the beginning of the fight and found his range earlier and better.
Such a great back and forth fight and I took great personal gratification watching Rory crumble (especially after the end of round 3).

Mendes and McGregor
Good fight, definitely exposed Connors ground game as his weakness.
He has some take down defense, but doesn't seem to have a way of getting up off his back without an opening.
Good finish to it, and sets up the biggest Featerweight fight of all time.....

What.
A.
Card.

:)

There was a TUF finale on last night too which from what I read this morning had some controversy and some wicked action.
Shall be Fight Passing/MMA-Coreing it later.

That is a broken, broken man.
Potentially distressing for anyone not used to fighting event aftermaths...

Also, we had 189 on Saturday and the TUF Gyms Finale on Sunday (Ellenburger vs Wonderboy is worth a watch. Not seen anything else).

On Wednesday it's UFC Fight Night: Mir vs. Duffee (Actually looks quite good...)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UFC_Fight ... vs._Duffee[/url]

Saturday is UFC Fight Night: Bisping vs. Leites (Has a few nice fights on it)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UFC_Fight_Night:_Bisping_vs._Leites

Saturday the 25th si UFC on Fox: Dillashaw vs. Barão 2 (Which is a fine looking card....)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UFC_on_Fox:_Dillashaw_vs._Bar%C3%A3o_2

Saturday the 1st is UFC 190: Rousey vs. Correia (Another card with quite a few nice fights on it)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UFC_190

Fight week indeed.....
Probably time to do all of the picks......

Fine timing :)

Waiting to watch it tomorrow. Saw one of Bispings injuries, but no idea how the fight went.
