What a start to the triple-header of the week....

Get on Fight Pass and watch it, well worth the time.

Not watched it? Don't read this...

Short version: watch it, it was pretty sweet if a little lacking in action in the build up The co-main and the main were both excellent for very different reasons.

Spoiler: show
13 seconds, one punch, an army of green fans screaming their approval.
It could not have been more perfect. Mystic Mac calls it spot on again...
Aldo calls for a rematch, UFC brass are all "Nope, Frankie next" which is a wonderful thing to hear to be honest because instant rematches are bullshit in general unless it was painfully close and contentious.

Weidman/Rockhold was a "better" fight. Ran to the 4th and was Rockhold up 2 rounds to one going into it.
Could have been stopped at the end of the third tbh, but Chris pretty much had the smoke kicked out of him and when the same sequence started in the 4th, Herb stepped in.

I knew both those belts were going to the challengers....

Sadly, the rest of the card was a bit lackluster in action.
Romero nearly finished Jacare in the first but then it all got a bit tame until the last 20 seconds of the third when Souza started tagging Yoel. Yoel is up next for Rockhold.
Maia proved he is unquestionably the best BJJ welterweight out there, maybe even the best period through a three round chess match with Nelson, cracking to watch but not what you'd call an exciting fight.
Holloway and Stephens just threw punches for 15 minutes, but neither looked like they were able to pull the trigger to stamp the win as theirs.

So of the great triple, the UFC.TV card (Thursday) wins on being the most entertaining, but last night was unquestionably the most satisfying :)

So I managed to miss saying anything about Dos Anjos/Cerrone 2.

Was pretty good, a little slow in places, but excellent showings from Olivera (bar the missed weight), Undereem, Nate Diaz and RDA.

More importantly, it's 2016. Our first UFC event is a doozy....

UFC 195
Robbie Lawler (c) vs. Carlos Condit
Stipe Miocic vs. Andrei Arlovski
Albert Tumenov vs. Lorenz Larkin
Diego Brandao vs. Brian Ortega
Abel Trujillo vs. Tony Sims

Preliminary Card (Fox Sports 1)
Michael McDonald vs. Masanori Kanehara
Kyle Noke vs. Alex Morono
Justine Kish vs. Nina Ansaroff
Drew Dober vs. Scott Holtzman

Preliminary Card (UFC Fight Pass)
Dustin Poirier vs. Joseph Duffy
Joe Soto vs. Michinori Tanaka
Edgar Garcia vs. Sheldon Westcott

WW belt up in the main event, and what an event it's going to be. Lawler and Condit has fireworks written all over it.
Stipe and Arlovski for the elusive (and often meaningless) number 1 contender status. I reckon that's a slow burner with an explosive end late in round 2 or early 3. They both have power, Arlovski probably more, but Stipe has accuracy and technique in his boxing.
Brandao should blast his way through Ortega so looking for the Brandao of TUF to turn up.

And if you ever needed a reason to be watching an entire card, you may as well buckle up and be ready at 23:30. Poirier and Duffy are headlining the Fight Pass prelims. Fireworks to roll us in, and fireworks to roll us out :)

Well, The UFC does it again.

The good:
Holm vs Tate. Instead of making her wait for Ronda, Holm gets to fight, and Tate gets her title shot that she's been waiting for for months.

The bad:
Frankie gets screwed out of his title shot, as McGregor moves up to 155 to face RDA to try and become the first simultaneous two weight champion in UFC history. The last person to try was BJ Penn when he moved up to WW and lost to GSP.

The Best:
Both fights targeted for March 5th at UFC 197. Fill that card with scrubs because everyone is buying that PPV regardless.
Really hope that comes together.....

Regardless of whether you are bored of MMA or just taking a break; get online, avoid the news sites and watch 199.

I did. Some good scraps in there and particularly nice to see Bisping win a title. Best bit of the night was the two fellas who, with 10 seconds to go, pointed at the canvas to say "Let's just fucking slug it out" and then proceed to do just that, hurling haymakers at one another until the bell went.

Pretty decent show all round although holy fuck they make it flabby with hot air - how anyone can watch it live is beyond me, I would roar myself hoarse! "Shut up and get the fuck on with it you caaaaahhhhnts!"

EDIT: Also RIP Kimbo Slice!

International Fight Week is on.

RDA defends his belt against Alvarez tonight, Nelson fight Lewis (OMG that's a fight and a half)
TUF Finale tomorrow night, with Joanna "Champion" defending her belt in a very heated rivalry and two new TUF champions crowned (meh ¬¬)

Then UFC 200 Saturday night. The greatest card of all time. The most wonderful....wait what? Jones has tested positive for something? Jesus titty fucking christ.....

However, Lesnar/Hunt is damn interesting. Tate/Nunes is a fight that's happening, Aldo and Edgar for the Interim belt, Cain and Browne should be madness.
Then there's the prelims which look like a rock solid Fox Card to watch in their own right.
The return of Zingano against Pena, Hendricks and Gastelum, Dillashaw and Assuncao in a rematch from years ago (that arguably went the wrong way), Sanchez and Lauzon, Miller and Gomi, Mousasi, Northcutt.......

Even without Jones/DC this is a card to watch.
