Mental is a nice way of putting it. People who attend demolition derbies and monster truck rallies think NASCAR fans are morons.

Yeah, holy shit what a race. I haven't been that excited for a race finish since that nail biter in Bahrain a few years ago.

What's your thoughts on Hamilton versus Vettel?

I personally think Vettel misjudged the closing speed and then got lost in his red mist.

It was a silly place for Hamilton to do a brake warmup, but Vettel's conduct afterwards was shocking. I'm really surprised he got away with the penalty he did.

The stewards would have had access to all of Hamilton and Vettel's data, if Hamilton had brake-tested Vettel he'd have got a penalty too. I think Vettel's punishment was too light, that behaviour gets you disqualified, fined and occasionally banned in other series.

Lewis did brake, he slowed by about 30kph according to the on screen graphic, but I guess the stewards judged that was part of his warmup routine (which I'm assuming it was, it wouldn't have made sense to do it purposely).

You can't use your car as a weapon, and deliberately banging into another car under the safety car should really have been a disqualification. There's no excuse. Still, was fun to watch!

The graphics aren't very accurate, and Hamilton had to slow down to let the safety car pull away.

Reading up on this today Hamilton didn't do anything wrong according to the data, Vettel just went to sleep and ended up in the back of his car. The fact that all he got for using his car as a weapon was a 10 second stop and go is ludicrous. If that had been any team other than Ferrari he would have been instantly disqualified.

Vettel has previous for losing his temper in the car and is only a few points off having the 12 points on his license that would lead to a disqualification. He needs to get a grip, he is after all in the lead of the championship. Guy is a bit of a child.

I can kind of understand (not excuse) his moodiness last year because he did have an unusually long streak of bad luck, but what's his reason now? He's leading the championship, he's not had much in the way of bad luck... It feels like the incident yesterday was his own silly mistake, he couldn't control his temper and he won't (can't?) accept responsibility. So yeah, a bit childish.

Compare that with Verstappen who has every right to be pissed off now but has handled his misfortune professionally.

Have to say, in general this season is far better than the last two or three seasons at least, possibly even since 2011. Far from perfect but the presence of some competition between the top three teams and Force India making some impressive gains is enough to make it interesting. The next big step I think they need to take is to find a solution to DRS (i.e. to get rid of it), because it's the weakest link.

The season is interesting because of the rivalry, but I still find the racing on the track rather dull. Unless there is a crash or bad weather the race is usually won or lost in the pits which doesn't make for riveting viewing.

They need to sort the aero issue, everyone knows it needs to go under the car, but nobody wants to actually make the changes necessary as the bigger teams are happy with the way things are, even if it leads to boring racing.

I don't think that's as true this year as last year - there have been plenty of 'legit' on-track scraps so far. The problem for me is when on-track overtaking is reduced to DRS on the straights.

There has been less overtaking this year but it's usually more dramatic, diving down the inside, using traffic to gain an advantage etc. The move Ricciardo put on both the Williams during the restart was fantastic.
