I think that popping noise you just heard was Ron Dennis' head exploding.

Those colours are fantastic individually; not sure they look great together. I'm also desperately hoping they have a title sponsor lined up this year - that sidepod looks awfully bare.

I was thinking, if Donald Trump sat in that cockpit his head would become invisible.

The view from behind the new halo is awful.

Take that with a pinch of salt; it's not designed to work with a single-lens helmet cam. My understanding is that central pillar is narrow enough for it to give the driver a reasonably unobstructed view while on a straight (ideally it'll sit between the drivers' eyes), and on corners it's completely out of the way as the driver will naturally look towards the apex. When tested over the last couple of years, the drivers didn't complain about not being able to see clearly anyway.

So, err, that new F1 theme music has been released.

It will surprise nobody whatsoever upon listening to it that the composer is a guy who did soundtracks for multiple Marvel cinematic universe and The Fast and Furious series films. I think it's a decent piece of hollywood music, but I don't think it's suitable for F1 - it's far too American.

Yeah spot on Raid, I can just imagine a montage of the various Avengers flying across the screen.

Just seems like derivative, predictable dirge to me.

It's like its from a straight-to-video American drama about college footballers or something. Can just imagine slow-mo montages of them running along in training before the big match (minus the engine sound effects!).

I'm pretty sure that's what I said.

(This video kinda ruined a lot of film music for me.)

I only just noticed DJ's post saying the exact same thing about putting it to montage. Great minds...

Looks like there won't be many on board shots this year.

Race spoilers:

Spoiler: show
The end of this race has convinced me F1 is dead in its current state. What a bag of balls. Two four-time world champions battling for first with 5 laps to go, Hamilton borderline within DRS range and gaining, and he’s forced to back off and concede the race because he only has three engines for the entire season and he can’t push it too hard. What a farce. What a fucking farce. We’ve obviously had similar situations in the last few years, but the way it happened today is outright depressing.

Find a way to ditch V6 engines without losing teams, go back to cheaper, louder V8s that drivers can rag when needed and maybe F1 has a chance. Right now it’s fucked beyond recognition.

Mate the farce started when Vettel managed to benefit from the Virtual Safety car. It's a joke that you can leapfrog people under that system.

I'm not too concerned about the engine issue. It's something the sport needs to do to keep costs down. The fault in that battle was the aero. It was incredibly hard to pass all race and up till that point Hamilton hadn't got close to passing Vettel. I expect we will get many more races like that, just as we did last season.

Seemingly the VSC overtake issue wasn't as simple as it looked; Mercedes apparently had an issue with their race simulation software which meant the delta they were giving to Lewis wasn't as fast as it should have been. I'm not going to pretend to understand that entirely (especially as I thought the delta was fed to the car by race control). Still, overtakes under safety cars have long been an issue in F1; this certainly isn't the first time a race has had a lead change because of one.

I still think the race was ruined by what I've long considered the big problem with F1, and that's that cars just can't pass each other. Lewis was faster than Seb at the end of the race, but having the faster car isn't always more important than track position in this sport. Yes, Lewis backing off because of the engine parts limit will feed into this too, but it's not the root cause (but I suspect we'll be discussing this a lot more in ten races time when Toro Rosso are getting 30 place penalties every race).

Best comment I've seen today was that it was tragic that the American team had a gun problem. Thoughts and prayers etc.
