Hear them all in work talking about these foreign players and I can't understand how they can reconcile them with their various British clubs.
Makes me sad. I'm Irish but I still like to see a good England team play and I haven't seen that since the 90 world cup.
We have a generation of players coming up from the academy who saw some first-team action this season. None who I would point to as being the next Gerrard or anything, but a bunch of solid kids who will be in and around the squad.
Jordon Ibe, Sheyi Ojo, Cameron Brannagan, Danny Ward are probably the best picks from the U21s, and there are a few in the U18s who will start to appear in another year or two.
Above them you have the likes of Danny Ings and Kevin Stewart, who we picked up from other clubs but are talented English players... but my personal pick would be 19yo Joe Gomez who we picked up from Charlton. Rolls-Royce of a defender who was unfortunately injured for the season in October, but will be ready for the start of next season.
That's without mentioning Connor Randall, who has played but I don't think is that good, and Jon Flanagan, who is good but just emerging from a horrendous two years of injuries, and no idea if he'll be able to get back to where he was.
I won't say Liverpool is a production line for young English players, but we do better than some of the other clubs competing at the top end of the table.
Our first-team regularly includes Daniel Sturridge, Jordan Henderson, Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana and James Milner, all English internationals. Joe Allen (Welsh) also plays fairly often.
My face is tired.
