Euro 2012

Postby Sly Boots » Fri May 18, 2012 5:28 pm

Seems a good idea to have a separate thread for this to discuss all things Euro 2012.

To kick us off, no idea if anyone is interested, but I've created a Fantasy Football league for the tournament:

Just a bit of a bump, and anyone who wants to do the FF has about a week now before the tournament starts to get their team in.

Both Lampard and Barry out of Euro 2012 then. Perhaps not such a bad thing.

But Henderson has been called up instead. :?

Odd selection, I would have thought with the doubts over Jones and Johnson at RB that it would make more sense for Hodgson to swallow his pride and call up Richards. But, not that surprising knowing Hodgson.

Richards and Carrick had both already said no, its hardly far to call them up over the players in the emergency list. It was their decisions not to be included in that list and so it's now their own fault they're not going to the Euro's now.

Oh, I didn't realise Carrick had also ruled himself out. It's all a bit silly really.

Yeah seems a bit childish to say you wont go on the standby list.

Cahill out now with a fractured jaw, Martin Kelly called up.

Was a pretty cheap shot from Mertens:

Bloody hell, our whole first team will be going with England at this rate. That's six players - Gerrard, Johnson, Downing, Carroll, Henderson and Kelly - over 25% of the squad.

I wonder what Richards and Carrick are thinking around now...

Bump

Last chance to enter a team into the FF league, as it all kicks off tomorrow. So far there's just the two of us, so podium finish almost guaranteed!

So is anyone gonna go nuts and watch every match?

I might dip in to the Poland Greece match tomorrow since it's the opener, but Russia v Czech Republic will probably be the better game. I'll be watching that.

I will start by watching them all, but I probably won't stay the distance. Will probably end up avoiding any dead-rubber group matches, and anything that is obviously going to be a yawn-fest (like Poland-Greece unfortunately, or anything involving England).

I'm somewhat curious as to how England will set about their matches. Our play is so dysfunctional at the moment, and has been for a long time now, the midfield struggle to operate as a unit, occupying spaces, opening up channels, etc. Don't really have a solid system that they're all happy with.

Every now and then in a match they'll be a small random moment of sharpness that may result in an opportunity. But it could be grim viewing at times I fear.

Probably. I watched every match in World Cup 2010 barring USA vs Algeria and Spain vs Paraguay. It stopped being fun after about two weeks though, I was cooped up inside for pretty much a month. Although I'll probably do the same this year too. Ireland's first major tournament since '02 as well!
