It was always going to happen at some stage, too many batsman out of form. Current England batting averages for the Ashes.
Cook 27.7
Trott 29.3
Prior 19
Root 37.66
Pietersen 38.8.

The only one with a respectable average is Bell. By contrast despite their collapses the Aussie batsman actually have a better average:
Rogers 40.77
Warner 23
Watson 41.8
Clarke 47.62
Smith 38.33.

Anyone who was predicting we were going to walk this series should seriously have their head examined. We got away with it in the summer, but the margin for error is much less when on tour. Our current runs per wicket stands at 32.28. Our lowest since 2011. The only plus point is that we have lost the opening match of the last 5 overseas tours, but have often improved from there.

I love this quote from Boycott.

"England have an 82-page booklet on what to eat, but one guy comes in and bowls at 90mph and they can't handle it.

Yeah we got utterly annihilated in the first test in India a year or so back and came back to dominate the series. Hopefully they'll recover here the same way.

I still want to see our bowlers do well and get them out for 250 or so here. Just because our batsmen are going through amateur-phase, doesn't mean our bowlers can't hit form.

Mitchell had one of his purple patches yesterday, if it turns into a series-long streak it could be tough times for the English top order. But he's just as liable to spray it all over the place next match so who knows.

England need to get that innings out of their system pronto.

This feels worse than 2006-07. At least I didn't think we had a chance then.

I think it's because we could and should have had a better go of it. The bloody bunch of bottlers.
