Bolt > Phelps. Bolt's performance was just totally unbelievable.

Yeah, the greatest Olympian ever is rubbish compared to a man who broke ONE world record.

Heh.

The most difficult world record to broke though. Well quite possibly anyway. And I didn't see Phelps showboat. Also, did anyone see the article in the paper about his diet?

Yeah, and apparently he's a complete fuckup as well, double-jointed in just about every place possible. A spastic on land, but almost literally like a fish to water.

I know what you mean about Bolt, it was a super-human performance, but Phelps' should have nothing taken away from him - like someone said the other day, by form, if he swims again tomorrow, he'll break the record again... it's ridiculous that he was taking the golds with record-breaking speeds day after day.

I have this weird feeling he'll be a total cock to talk to though. Like Lewis Hamilton, nursed from a young age to become what he is today. Pushed by his parents whenever possible.

Well yeah, actually when I saw him on Top Gear he seemed alright, but he's one of those people who's parents will do anything to make sure he's the best. Way too pushy, which in turn has made him too competitive.

Teh amount of medal Phelps has won is amazing, but all this talk about him being the greatest Olympian ever is a bit off the mark. It is much easier to win many medals in swimming as there are so many similar events. This isn't to say it isn't an amazing feat to win the amount he has, but to say he is better than everyone else I think is wrong. Greatest ever swimmer, but not greatest ever Olympian.

Added to that being the greatest Olympian is about how you achieved the medals and how you act afterward -embody the Olympics spirit- not just the actual achievement itself.

...add to that length of time at the top of your sport.

Steve Redgrave for example. Golds for 5 consecutive olympics. Thats 20 years at the top of his sport...
