Owen just scored a late debut goal to salvage a 2-3 win against Malaysia.

Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed local rivals Manchester City as a major threat to Manchester United's Premier League title this season.

No shit, McSherlock.

Thailand 1-1 Liverpool

Three games, two draws and a defeat and one goal scored. Keep telling myself it's only preseason, but that is something of a worry...

Newcastle just got beaten 6-1 by Leyton Orient in a pre-season match. Fucking hell, Leyton Orient.

I'll be surprised if we aren't relegated AGAIN next season.

Newcastle still has decent players, morale is just at an all-time low because of the ownership situation, and it's knock-on effect on the lack of management and transfer business.

Need to sell asap, but I can see things improving quite quickly when they do.

There's also the fact that Chris Hughton has proven time and again that he is the most incompetent caretaker manager known to man.

I'm pretty sure longterm Shearer will be manager and things will stabilise, but it's just pulling the club out of this hole it buried itself in is going to be a nightmare for quite a while yet.

The quicker the club is sold the better. But it's taking a while...

So John Terry has pledged his future to Chelsea.

I'm quite glad about this because it's good proof that there are still some players playing that can't be bought by money and still do have loyalty to their clubs.

I think if John Terry had gone to city it would have given a horrible message (to me at least) seeing as he's been at Chelsea his whole career and I expected him to be there til the end.

As a City fan, I concur with what Gandalf said.

Football is a game full of mercenaries and even though money is what matters to most players, it's nice to see some players that go against all that shite.

To be honest, I've been more worried about losing Nedum Onuoha to Everton. He's blue through-and-through, that lad. Even though Hughes has come out and said that he doesn't want to get rid of our best talent, the papers insist on digging it up.

Nedum sounds like my uncle Fred, also.

I saw Onuoha being interviewed a year or so ago on Football Focus... he's actually quite intelligent for a footballer (went to Uni, I think), is quite eloquent and seems like a bloody nice bloke.

Did he play much last year? My memory is prone to occasional fogginess, but I thought he had a good season in 2007/8, but then kind of disappeared off the radar for some reason last season.

And whatever happened to Michael Johnson?

"Born in Nigeria, Onuoha was raised in Manchester, England. He went to Nelson Street Primary School Miles Platting followed by Hulme Grammar Private School in Oldham. He achieved an impressive two 'A*' and seven 'A' grades at GCSE. He then completed his studies at Xaverian College Manchester where he achieved three 'A' grades at A-level."

Smarter than me.

Whatever happened to Michael Johnson I can't see him having an important role at City next season, not when there's better alternatives...

That's some fearsome school grades. Well done Nedum. -_-
