Postby Feet » Fri Aug 03, 2007 11:44 am

The draw for 3rd round qualifying has been completed.

Liverpool to play Toulouse
Arsenal to play Sparta Prague
Celtic and Rangers are also playing people.

Both legs will be played in August. After that the Group stages will be drawn.

Rangers didn't exactly set the heather on fire in the second qualifying round, winning 3-0 on aggrigate against a pretty poor Zeta side. Worryingly, it seems the supporters of Balkan teams have failed to take heed of UEFA's threat to throw out or ban clubs who cannot control their fans' racism. Demarcus Beasley and Jean-Claude Darchville were thier targets for the entire 90 minutes. ANd Rangers' next opponent? Crvena Zvezda (Red Star Belgrade), of Serbia. The same nation England had problems with in the U21 Euro Championships earlier this year.

Yeah Liverpool won 1-0, Celtic drew 1-1 away which is a pretty good result and Arsenal are winning 1-0.

Aye, Celtic played particularly well considering they had to play on an unfamiliar plastic pitch, and the Moscow groundsmen watered it heavily after Celtic took their last training session on it!

A cruise for Arsenal and can't see Liverpool slipping up after a good away win. Rangers won 1-0 on Tuesday, so it's quite possible we'll have six British teams in the group stage.

And I'd say five of them have a very good chance of making the knock-outs. Unless there are some very tough draws.

Rugged performance by Arsenal last night. It was nice to see that we were not intimidated by the rough treatment we recieved. Maybe we have finally learned to deal with it. The best thing about last night is that it looks like we might have re-discovered how to win whilst not playing particularly well. Something which we have nott really been able to manage in the past two seasons.

What do we reckon about this Champions League place for the FA Cup winners then (instead of 4th place in Prem)?

Sound idea or silly UEFA?

I reckon it might work quite well, except there's always a chance you could have Acrington Stanley in the CL, which would be most amusing.

Not really.

One of the top 4 usually wins anyway. I'd just go to whoever came second, who would also be in the top 4.

Then we'd be screwed.

I think it's good because it will mean the FA Cup matters again. That said, it'll probably be one of the top four who wins it, and Arse/Spurs fans will just have something else to moan about.

I think it would certainly revitalise a cup that's no onger really important, it also might introduce a few new teams to the CL which could be no bad thing.
