This was in "World Soccer Magazine" and "The Telegraph". Any thoughts? Personally I can't understand the Liverpool - Milan final and the Man Utd - Bayern ones being so high up. Fair enough there were dramatic come-backs in both, but the quality of football, or the excitement wasn't particularly high in either.

For my mind the Liverpool - Alaves match is the one of the greatest I have ever seen. Incredibly exciting, it swayed one way then the other - you didn't know who was going to win until that goal in the dying minutes. It had everything -penalties, own goals, red cards. It was the type of match, with the type of score-line, that you (apparently) got in the good old days of football.

The Germany - Italy match last year was good as well, and I think what made it that way compared to other matches in the World Cup was the fantastic refereeing. He wasn't forever blowing, he let play continue and he gave on truck to the Italian players when they threw themselves on the floor.

I might suggest the West Ham vs Liverpool FA Cup final. Or the Gerrard final as it's known.

No idea why the Man Utd v Bayern game is in there, I don't recall it being particularly good except for the two late goals.
I still love you.

Definitely the 4-3 Liverpool-Newcastle match, although as a Geordie it still causes me much pain to view.

On a personal level, my favourite match ever was Newcastle's 5-0 win over Manchester. It was pretty much the most fun I've had in my life watching that.

My pain was equal to your pleasure :(.

Man Utd 6 - Arsenal 1 was a personal favourite. But it wasn't a fantastic footy match, not end to end thrilling stuff.

I remember a match at the 1994, I think it was Argentina v Bulgaria that was a really exciting match.

Tottenham Hotspur 3 Manchester City 4

3-0 down, lost our main striker (Anelka) and down to ten men (Barton got sent off for walking towards the referee. ¬_¬) at half time.

Came back to win 3-4.

I have memories of Sun Jihai going "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT FUCKING HELL". ^_^

We had a similar one. 3 - 0 down to Spurs at half-time at WHL, came back to win 5 - 3. Arf.

No.... but we were playing Laurent Blanc and Nicky Butt. Surely combined they must count as -1? Bloody hell. That was 6 years ago. I thought it was like two seasons ago :(. I'm old!

Yeah that is one of my favourite matches of all time. Especially sweet as an Arsenal fan.

One match that I thought was great was in the Champions League where we destoryed Inter Milan 5-1 at the San Siro in 2003. It was especially good as we had lost the home tie 3-0. To go into Italy at a time when English clubs still found it hard to win there and totally destory Inter by outplaying them was just amazing.

Come on man, the Milan-Pool final was absolutely class. I'm guessing the list is not about quality of football on display, but enjoyment factor, and by that it was definitely the best CL final I've ever watched, if not the best game.

And yeah, the Gerrard final was an ace game. If only Liverpool had shown the spirit they had in those two games in the most recent CL final, they'd've won it easy, 'cos it's not like Milan were spectacular in it.

I think that Euro 2004 game between Czech and Holland was probably the best game of football i've ever seen. 2-0 to Holland, Czechs came back to win it 4-3 (might have been 3-2, but i think it was 4-3), fucking brilliant game.

1999 Division 2 play-off final: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=FMQtZDb98bM

*Gets goosebumps*

"Gillingham are heading into Divison 1!"
"That's game over."
"That's actually killed the game off, now."
