Its based on a percentage of pages read, so yes, but hardly much. But the more important reason is to try and get a hole bunch of people who have read it, and hopefully liked it, to put a review of it on amazon (and Goodreads etc) in order to tempt more people to buy it and get me known to a wider readership.

I have had my first American sale =D>

Plus, I have had 11 downloads today as part of the free promo. Hopefully they like it enough to put a quick review/opinion of it on amazon.

I'll pop my thoughts later next week when I've had a good sit down with it. I'll also add an amazonreview for you.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.

One thing to note, is that it was edited for 'US English' not 'British English'. I didn't have to money or means to do both, so you will come across the odd word that looks strange to us brits, like 'Plow' rather than 'Plough'.

A few updates, as I have been a bit busy recently. I now have an official website:-

http://www.gordonatkins.com

The site contains info on my current book, plus updates on any future projects, when I have some details to give out. It also contains sections on any reviews I get, as well as a blog.

Talking of reviews. Kirkus Reviews have one, up on their site. So a big thanks to them. Read it here:-

Sometimes you have to acknowledge things are not quite as they should be. I have been pondering my first book for the past 3 or 4 months, to the detriment of my second. With my first, there are two main threads, the main story/journey of the two brothers, and the whole military build up, fighting and politics. I am considering taking out the entire second thread, all the military build up, the politics, the militia, everything. I think it takes focus away from the real story. I won't dump it as I like the characters and a hell of a lot of the scenes I have written. So I will put it in a future book.

I will do a rough edit, smooth the edges, make some minor changes and see how it goes. It probably means the book will go from 85,000 words to under 60,000. But I will see how it flows, and decide what I want to do.

Haven't sold a book in months. Sold one at the end of July, and sold one today. Woohoo, gonna splash out on a bar of chocolate, coz that's all the royalty payments will probably cover.

Yes writing is a tough gig.

My mate who I linked earlier in this thread has been writing for years, with 3 books published through Salt publishing (Scarecrow, Broken Arrow and Werewolf), and he is still poor as a church mouse that has fallen on particularly hard times despite a publisher and an agent. Weirdly the most money he has got has been for the German translation rights to Scarecrow, his first novel, for which he got £20k (before agent and publishers fees). That was years ago though and he has had nothing like that since.

He initially focused on crime writing due to it being the most lucrative fiction, as well as being able to draw on his experience working as a journalist in Almeria for his protagonist. He is writing a new book presently, having dropped Salt as a publisher, and this one will be a fantasy title. From early test readings, it is looking very good, but there is so much luck in getting noticed as a writer.

Keep at it :)
