Gogol delivered, as expected.
Blinding weekend all in all that.

Opeth tomorrow for the Sorceress UK tour! Pretty pumped as I've glimpsed the setlist and have never heard Blackwater Park live.

I have :)

In fact, if you pause it at 18 seconds in, you can see me clear as day, right hand side of Mikael's elbow next to a rather tidy Welsh lassie who I met on the day.

Figures you'd show up Ian. You can't mention Opeth on this forum without you rubbing it in about that anniversary gig. :P

It was immense, by the way. Incredible set. The final three songs were Hessian Peel, Blackwater Park into Deliverance for encore. A ludicrously intense 30 minutes.

Yeah I missed them this time around sadly - the decision not to play in London was an odd one.

And sorry, can never help rubbing that one in :D

I assume they missed London because the big Wembley arena show they did last year was technically part of the Sorceress tour and that was their only UK date.

Could be - I missed that one too, I don't do big venues and make very few exceptions to that rule :)

Mastodon at Brixton this weekend - should be a belter.

Indeed it was. Russian Circles, Red Fang and Mastodon all played their fucking balls off.

The only fly in the ointment was London Underground's utter clusterfuck afterwards, making me get the 01:05 train back - bed was not reached until 02:30. Thankfully I took today off work in advance, but my gigging buddy is currently staggering through the day on 2 hours sleep.

Clutch UK dates for December announced. Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol and London. Going to hitch to the Bristol gig I think.

Cannibal Corpse last night, supported by the Black Dahlia Murders and French act In Arkadia at the Kentish Town Forum. Superb gig from the off, we were in nice and early and got a good spot from which to watch the show. In Arkadia were like a mix of hardcore and death metal, and despite being the first act of the night went for it from the start. Black Dahlia Murders were a big draw and the whole place went mental when they came onstage. The whole area in front of the stage became a huge circle pit and stayed that way for the rest of the night, with loads of folks crowd-surfing.

Cannibal Corpse had a tough act to follow, but they nailed it regardless. George Fisher must have neck muscles that could upend a truck, his windmilling headbanging just didn't stop throughout, unless he was growling out the lyrics through a mop of hair or joking with the crowd.

Really great night, with all three bands giving it their all.

Levellers always put on a good show, I used to watch them when they played support for New Model Army back in the day and they have always been a fun act.

Testament and Vader tomorrow night - gonna be brutal :)
