Haha you weren't kidding!

Great little venue, and a brilliant night had. 3 Finnish metal bands, including possibly the most bizarre band I have seen - Talbot, a 2 piece consisting of drummer and bass player, who often played one-handed while cranking a wahwah pedal plus playing a keyboard and using a whole bunch of other effects pedals with his hand. Second band were a bit meh, death metal but trying too hard, and with a lass doing the singing/growling who wasn't brilliant.

Ghost Brigade though, fuck me what a band. I have been a fan for years, with their brand of melo-death metal bang into my groove. The place was fucking tiny, and I couldn't see how a 5-piece were ever going to fit, but they made it work fantastically. Sound was great considering the sound of the venue. Met the band after the gig and a really nice bunch of guys.

Also as an added bonus, met Aaron from Paradise Lost at the gig, and spent a long while chatting with him - a man who is really excited about their forthcoming album and says it is meaner and nastier than anything they have done in the last 20 years. I like the sound of that....

I've got DTP on Monday which slightly makes up for the fact that I'll be missing out on the Royal Albert Hall gig.

Alcest are playing a mini UK tour soon but I can't make the Glasgow date because of work. :(

All set ready for Devin tomorrow at the RAH. Knowing some of the tracks that are going to be on the by request setlist, I'm super pumped.

This year is shaping up to be exciting. Currently booked up for Devin tomorrow, King Crimson and Steven Wilson in September and Nightwish in December.

Bagged tickets for (get this):

Slayer
Anthrax
Kverletak

All on the same bill at Brixton Academy.

For those who wish to scoff, this will be the first time I have seen Anthrax since the Persistence of Time tour, and Slayer since the Seasons In The Abyss tour. both bands having been massive influences on me in my teens/twenties.

But, Brixton Academy? I was expecting an arena gig as a minimum - at Brixton that is gonna be intense.

Saw Alien Ant Farm, P.O.D and Hoobastsank in Cardiff the other week.

Fair dues, my hopes for coolness dropped when I walked in to find AAF were not headlining as I had expected but were up first, but in fairness the whole gig was wicked fun (yes, even P.O.D).

I suspect next up will be Bad Manners and The Beat (not on the same night) in Cardiff later in the year, and Def Leppard in December for some cheese form my youth :D

Also bagged tickets to see Paradise Lost at Koko later this year. Their new album is a real return to form.

Saw the Dead Kennedys last night at the Shepherds Bush Empire - am now battered, bruised and hung over :D

This was a band I got into just around the time that they split up, and had always resigned myself to never seeing. They are playing again, but without singer Jello Biafra which is a massive loss, as he was the real driving force behind the band. Still, had to ask myself did I want to see half a band that I had always thought I would never see, or not see them at all because of all the animosity. I chose the former and am really glad.

That said, my body is physically reminding me that I am nearly 45, and that possibly going on a half-day drinking spree then plunging into a punk mosh-pit for 2 hours might not have been the wisest of decisions...

Dead Kennedys, now there was a band. Plastic Surgery Disasters is still one of my fave punk albums ever, certainly their best.
