Huh. Wintersun put out a new album? Guess i'd waited so long that I forgot.

Anyone heard it yet? I'll get a copy when I'm in town on Monday, though it seems like AMG and others are a bit underwhelmed if the reviews are anything to go by.

Had a brief listen yesterday. Will have another listen but I never really saw what the fuss was about Wintersun. Too many power metal elements for it to properly grip me.

So - probably the wrong person to comment :D

Well this took me by surprise a bit.

Fate whispers to the warrior "You cannot withstand the storm"

Motorhead does Bowie, and does a dam fine job of it.

A few singles from old black metal names this year:

Satyricon:

They continue being Dad Black Metal. Still sounds fun, though.

Enslaved:

The Viking lads continue to get proggier.

Samael:

They might be on to something this time. Getting back to sounding epic.

Been a year or so. Guess it's time to try bashing my head against Above and Lux Mundi again. :-k

Not a bad effort, glad they're returning more to their previous vibe. The single doesn't really have an amazing hook at any point though.

Some more:

Yeah, it's not exactly their "poppiest" sound, but they've at least convinced me to give the full album a try.

Holy crap. The new Perturbator is damn good. Wonderfully dark and heavy at spots. Vocal track is a bit rubbish, though.

I'm just mad because the option to buy the CD isn't working yet.

Wow. This album is incredible. That bass drop in Tactical Precision Disarray is dirty as hell.

I really like that all my favourite synthwave artists are starting to move away from the more 80s inspired sounds to newer, far darker ones. Mega Drive did a fantastic album this year that experiments a lot more with his style too.

I like the vocal track too.

Sounds right up my alley, though the lyrics might need some unpacking. :-k

Blargh. I have not been following music much at all this year. Bought 28 new albums in 2016. A whopping 12 this year.
Some real good stuff, sure, but it feels like I'll be hard pressed to make a top 5.

Really need to go read up some AMG, see if there's anything awesome that I've missed. :-k

Anyone been finding any hidden gems?

Some Rob Zombie felt fitting today.

You know, that first album is still really good.

Hey!

(Haha. And the friggin video... There does seem to be a thing for Rob Zombie live shows where the camera tries to seek out every topless woman in the audience)

Yeah I have to say that video casts Rob Zombie live in a whole different (and very misleading) light.

When I saw him firstly I was not cast asunder in a mosh-pit of naked boobies, and secondly the gig was nowhere near as dynamic as that makes out. Most of ol' Rob's stuff is pretty turgid imo, kinda like Ministry but with the balls snipped off :D
