I'm no music critic, so I'll keep it simple: It's good 'n heavy, but I'm not sure about the vocals.

Ahem. 8-[

That sums up my thoughts on it too. Over the course of the EP the vocals were the standout, and for the wrong reasons. It sounded like the vocalist was really straining with the delivery which made it wearing over an extended listen.

That's fair enough guys. I still appreciate that you took the time to not only check it out but also buy a copy which will help fund future releases or a mini tour etc. Many thanks :o

Haha no, I am not the vocalist, I'm one of the guitarists. Even if I was the vocalist, my previous post would still stand :).

But I'd also have to find you both and cut you.

My copy of the new album arrived today. Listened through once already and suffice to say it is fantastic. A lot heavier than your average Ayreon record, the riffing sounds a lot more like it's straight out of his Star One project. Some fantastic vocal performances from Tommy Karevik, Nils K. Rue, Floor Jansen and Mike Mills too. The perfect mix of cheesy and epic.

I really love this stuff.

Phew.
That's certainly something.

But yeah. I'm still on an Igorrr kick. So, here, a song composed by one of his pet chickens:

I don't really get how you don't like Ayreon when you're a fan of power metal. :P Is it because it's basically a metal musical? One step too far?

I'd say there's a difference between power metal and amped up, painfully earnest prog. :o

And there's lots of rubbish power metal out there. I just like the overly heroic, "cinematic" stuff. It usually has a sense of humour about it... unless it comes from Italy.

I think you're taking it a bit too at face value if you think it's a very earnest production. Even Lucassen is aware of the fact that it's a ridiculously silly space opera. -_-

Even if you remove the words "painfully earnest" and my point still stands. :o
For all the shared DNA they might have, Power Metal and Prog Metal don't often overlap.

But yeah, the rock opera thing kind of kills it for me as well.

New Pain of Salvation album. Sounds a lot more like their early work than previous albums. Incredibly good.

Against my better judgement, I bought myself some thunderous blackened industrial doom/drone.

It's certainly got a mood going for it, at least!

Don't know if this band is still going but Neil Fallon on vocals.
