Sounds good, but a little too disco for my tastes.
Feels like I've been spoiled after the brutality of that last Perturbator.

You can bet I was thrilled to find that the Summoning guys had an industrial project.

It really is just the stranger, more electronic bits of the main band but with the guitars and Lord of the Rings stripped out and replaced with gothic cyberpunk.





In other words: Very yes!

I wish all these industrial bands would put a bit more effort into their production techniques. I love the genre but it really does wind me up when their albums sound like a mess.

Incidentally, I've been listening to the OST from the new Blade Runner a lot lately. It has grown on me quite a lot, I think it might be perfect.

Not going to impress anyone, but I'm enjoying this. Rough and tumble industrial black metal with plenty of "spooky" samples and unpretentiously danceable electronics.



While there's nothing particularly artful or clever about it, it's just a harsh techno-creepy good time.

The "wall of unsettling computer noises" approach is surprisingly engaging.
Not even the best track on the album, but the first one I could find. As a whole, it's quite an experience.

Been listening to way more Static-X and Spineshank that anyone should in 2017.
To shake me out of this out of this strange nostalgia for the turn of the millennium I've been in, along comes Aether Realm



Saw their name showing up a few times on the AMG end of year lists. Went to their bandcamp page and picked the first thing that caught my eye to give a listen.
Six minutes and ten seconds later, I turned to my CD collection and claimed "Get bopped, Wintersun."

Listening to their first album now. It's a total rip, for sure, but this is the sound I like and they're doing it well. Give me a few more "Woh-oh!"s and clap along bits, and we're sorted.

OMGoodness! New Summoning album this friday!

Will give the rest of an album a listen before pulling the trigger, but this did not leave a good impression.
I can sort of pick out all the elements that I've really enjoyed in the past, but the production sounds kind of horrific and the vocals have gotten worse somehow.

So it is no secret that I really don't do elf-metal. Even the viking stuff which I do enjoy, if it is overtly swords and sorcery it makes me want to go and kick the author in the balls for such trite wankings. Thankfully Johan Hegg is far too massive for me to do anything about it though

I'm inclined to agree, sadly. Not sure what hobbit pipe weed they were smoking.
Still hope it'll come together in the end, but this is just sounds like piss poor Summoning. Like they rehashed a track from the last album, only recorded it with strings and tin cans while downing dwarven ales.

In a surprise to no one, I picked up the new Summoning album on a whim. It couldn't be as bad as that one track they put out, could it?

Thankfully it's not. Even if the whole thing does feel like a slightly less ambitious version of their previous album (with rougher production values), there's actually some pretty damn good medieval elven doom going on. Particularly fond of Night Fell Behind, which sound like a grim take on Shadow of the Beast.

The album isn't up there with my favorites based on initial spins, but it's not the mess I was expecting. Why they chose to lead with that awful track, I do not know.

Been getting into an electro industrial vibe. Found a label on Bandcamp selling cool shit for next to nothing, so been stocking up on wacky American cyber metal grimness.

Nothing big, clever or particularly new. Sounds like it's made by guys who grew up listening to guys who grew up listening to Ministry, FLA, Nailbomb and grimy stuff like that.




It really is Front Line Assembly if they hadn't dropped Devin Townsend after Circuitry. And, as derivative as that sounds, I'm digging it!

Love me some Trepalium and this EP from a few years back is aces. Some Death-swing anyone?
