THQ Nordic Announce Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered

Postby Prey » Thu Mar 29, 2018 1:46 pm

THQ Nordic has announced plans to bring back another old-time THQ classic with another weird, tongue-twisting title: Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered will feature updated graphics with improved lighting, shading, post-processing effects, and support for 4K resolutions.

Released in 2009, Red Faction: Guerrilla is an open-world game about a guy who gets a job working the mines on Mars, and quickly ends up at the forefront of an insurgency against the pushy jerks of the Earth Defense Force. It's best known for the wild destructiveness it enabled: players can destroy pretty much everything they come across, including full-sized structures. And in case there was any doubt, yes, killing a whole bunch of bad guys at once by smashing a huge truck into the building they were standing on is very satisfying.

Re-Mars-tered. Oh dear. It's still one of my favourite THQ games so as long as the price is right I will give it another bash most certainly and hopefully it sets things up for a brand new outing.

"Update: THQ Nordic has confirmed that Re-Mars-tered contains all of the original game's DLC. Steam owners of the original game will also be able to upgrade to the Re-Mars-tered edition for free."

When I read the thread title I assumed it was just a pun Prey came up with.

Just read that if you own the original on Steam you'll get the remaster for free, which is quite nice. I've not played it for yonks so may give it a spin when it comes out.

I bought this ages ago and never played it. If I get it for free I'm happy with that. :)

So they're basically just giving this away free to most people then. I would imagine a huge swathe of the Steam user base has this in their library. What with its appearance in countless bundles over the years.

Fairly decent of them. Love me some Red Faction Guerilla action. :D

I remember at the start of the game I killed the brother and an actual message popped up saying "WTF? YOU KILLED YOUR BROTHER!!!"

So apparently I don't have RFG on Steam :?

I'm guessing it was so long ago I had the disc for it, although I've checked through mine and can't see it so I must have chucked it out at some point.

Long story short, I've just bought it again

It's currently 50% on Steam and Gog, so £7.50. I know I enjoyed it first time so not to worried about forking over a bit more to the devs.

It's still downloading, but hopefully will give it a try later today.

What have they done to it again anyway? Prettier graphics and bugs etc?

I remember getting about a third through and it developed a loading bug that crashed the game and never going back to it.

Had a quick play, and it runs really well on high settings and they've concentrated mostly on updating the graphics I would say. If you own it anyway then I'd say it's well worth getting the free update and trying it out.
