IGI to make a return

Postby DjchunKfunK » Tue May 30, 2017 11:20 am

Looks like IGI is to make a return with Norwegian studio Artplant, made up of developers from the studio who worked on the original games, having received funding via the NFI grants for a Project IGI.

Chief Executive Jack K Wulff had this to say.
"We don't have much to announce at this point, other than that the game will be called IGI - We're Going In,"

I'm sure there will be a few on here who will be happy to hear this news.

Is "We're Going In" part of the title or just a witty comment?
Could be co-op / multiplayer focused?

A good ways off, I'd imagine, but should be interesting to see what they come up with.

Loved the first one. Didn't buy the second, no idea why.

It was less good but still decent.

We'll see how this turns out but hopes are fairly low for it being good.

Aye, they were enjoyable games for their time but I don't have high hopes for the remake.

IGI originally stood for International Global Interdiction or something ridiculous like that if I remember rightly.

I'm sure it stood for I'm Going In in the first game.

It sounds much more fun now you describe it like that.

That's my recollection too.

Damn I spent SO much time playing that game, and if they make a co-op tactical shooter count me right the fuck in.

According to Wikipedia it's Institute for Geotactical Intelligence. I feel vindicated.

The Jackhammer was a fantastic weapon. I loved the sound it made.

Imagine a brutally hard Rainbow 6 where you are on your own, could die from a single shot, and where the enemy didn't miss a trick (at least that is how my old brain recalls it).

You would be plonked into a map, given objectives, and then it was over to you. The toughest thing was that there was no option to save your game within each mission - and to play each mission took a LONG time. You could spend an hour sneaking, sniping, crawling through bases to achieve your goal, only to have one guy that you had missed kill you and you would have to restart the whole thing. Finishing each mission felt like you had managed to climb unaided up a sheer cliff, the sheer relief and delight that you had beaten the bastard.

I remember playing this once and my mother shouting at me from the garden to stop swearing so loudly

It could be frustrating alright.

I remember the last mission reducing me to a nervous wreck for that reason.
