I think FC2 is great too. FC1 4eva though. The trigen levels are good, damnit :x

The series has definitely gone downhill now though. FC3 was good, but repetitive. FC4 barely interested me for a few hours before I stopped (as it was essentially FC3 in mountains), and the concept of Primal sounded so awful that I didn't even consider it! This one sounds like it could be interesting, but I am waiting on reviews before looking into it more. I bet it'll be the same old shit with towers etc. though.

For me FC1 went over the cliff when the trigens arrived, similar to when you went from being the predator in Crysis and then the aliens turned up and it became arse.

Everyone always says that, but if you look at some of the levels that happen after the trigens appear, some of the best & most open maps in the game are after that point! E.g. the one where you cross the island after escaping from the bunker. Lots of mercs fighting trigens everywhere, loads of routes to take. Or the one where you go between several islands in a row and kill the boss in the helicopter! I need to replay that game.

I'll admit that the last level is godawful though, and fucking solid too.

I agree, remember arguing this point years ago, about 3 of the best 5 levels in the whole game are after the trigens appear.

I'm not saying the trigens themselves weren't a bit irritating at times, but not enough to deny yourself playing the best part of the game.

Yeah absolutely. The little jumping ones are absolute bastards, but the levels are really cool. I also love the one where the bad guy drops you in the jungle and you have to run through past all the trigens without any ammo for your weapon. Scary as fuck when I was 12.

If there was a mod to remove the constant respawning of the checkpoints in FC2 I may consider playing it again...

I just either snuck around them if on foot or blasted through them if in a car :)

Never really understood the whole respawning checkpoints criticism. Like Pew says it's just more fools to smoke. Never a bad thing imo. :D

The best far cry is clearly Blood Dragon.

It always crashes straight after the tutorial for me and after much googling and trying things it's a case of 'it ain't gonna work'. It look good though but after about 15 times of being told to look around, crouch and run I gave up trying.

PCG impressions at the 15-hour mark:

https://www.pcgamer.com/far-cry-5-review/

Main takeaways:

- it's good!
- it's very much like 3 & 4 though
- performance on PC is excellent
- the constant emergent carnage sounds like it would get tiresome after a while
- only a couple of towers, replaced with mini-dungeon stashes to infiltrate

Still think I will get this, particularly after not playing 4 or Primal and hence not being too burned out on the formula, but as before will wait until it hits the £25 or less mark. Mainly due to funds.
My face is tired.
