Ironic that after people pleading and crying for the game to return to boots on the ground gameplay in this much beloved era that once dominated first person shooters many are still heralding in the death of Call of Duty saying if indeed true it's too little too late. Bullshit. This is Activision hands down saying look, we were wrong, you were right. While they deviated away from what made the franchise so popular much to the disdain of well everyone a long term break from WW gaming was still sorely needed at the time and we are now at the point in line with Battlefield 1 where a new WW CoD will feel fresh and relative once more. It was never dead, merely dormant.

Imagine for a moment this very scene but reimagined with 2017 gaming technology. Yes. Please. Activision.

I'm torn on this of true. I hope that DICE beat them to it personally. They really pulled the socks up in bf1 recently with both the MP and SP. BF1 for me is peerless at the moment with MP gaming so month and we'll designed with some great modes of play.

Any new ww2 outing needs to try hard to do justice to the old games. That epic beach landing is seared in my brain and would take a lot of beating.

Question for me is how are they going to handle any esports with the subject matter? It's one thing having multiplayer but a crowd of people cheering on a team of Nazis might not go down well.

I don't know. Given the way "gamer culture" seems to be going these days, they'll probably be booing the Allies!

Err, they could just go with, y'know, "Germans"?

Or calling them 'Axis Forces' like they've been doing for years anyway.

COD: World at War was pretty good, more of a survival horror than a war game I thought. It obviously wasn't a big success as here never anymore of them.

They need to drop all the stupid loot crates and the grindfest that goes with the microtransactions too if they really want to succeed with this. It needs to be as pure a multiplayer experience as possible, like the original game.

They just need to remember a time when people actually bought their games purely for the single player experience and when multiplayer was nothing more than an additional bonus. Not like it is now where everything is fucked up backwards. No loot crates. No micro. No DLC or absurd Season Passes that removed a large chunk of the game to gain more cash. Take the Titanfall 2 route, buy the base game and all future DLC is completely free. Rebuild some of that lost respect and sales momentum by not being the greedy bastards they have long been known for and the suffered losses they have had for being exactly that.

In many ways this is Activision's biggest and most important opportunity in years where it could truly redeem itself and everything it has done wrong over the last decade so here's hoping someone somewhere in that company has the sense and logic to to do right by the very gamers who helped champion the IP way before it ever became everything people loathed so badly.

I doubt they will get another chance as big as this to put things right.

You can't have no loot crates and free DLC though.

Call of Duty returns to its roots with Call of Duty: WWII - a breathtaking experience that redefines World War II for a new gaming generation. Land in Normandy on D-Day and battle across Europe through iconic locations in history’s most monumental war. Experience classic Call of Duty combat, the bonds of camaraderie, and the unforgiving nature of war against a global power throwing the world into tyranny.

Hopefully DICE are at work also to give some healthy competition on this one.
