Pleased so see that I'm not just jaded and that my impressions from the beta have largely been agreed with.

It was just SO dull.

The discovery that they've been tampering with the XP scaling to try and drag out grinding for levels would have put me off for good had I even been on the fence about getting this.

Haven't tried the trial yet, hopefully will get the chance this evening. Expectations are pretty low though at this point, it must be said. It will be good to satiate my curiosity at least.

Well, I played the first mission, the one that sees you get booted off the capital ship, and so far it gets an ehhhh/10 from me. I'll keep playing, though, but so far it's just really seemed like a pretty basic shooting gallery.

Bungie detailed the changes they are making to the game because...

We want Destiny to be a world you want to be a part of

Basically their answer is to create more grind.

The Destiny 2 Ghost Skill serves as a premier companion for Destiny 2 players, creating brand-new ways to interact with the game, players can say, “Alexa, ask Ghost to…” with a variety of utterances — from “…tell me which friends are online,” to asking “…what should I do next?” giving recommendations for what to play next based on players’ real-time current progress, to “…call for back up,” which offers an easy way to interact with friends in their clan to enhance the social experience of Destiny 2, to “… equip my Raid loadout,” equipping players’ favourite weapons and armour for a number of different gameplay activities, to learning more about the world and characters of Destiny 2 with a request like, “…tell me who are the Red Legion?”

“The Ghost serves as your guide and companion in Destiny 2 the game, and now players will be able to bring that experience into the real world with them through Alexa,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision. “The Destiny 2 Ghost skill is the first of its kind and the most innovative and immersive gaming experience to date on Alexa. We’re excited to give our community of players, who are among the most-dedicated fans in the world, new ways to play Destiny 2 with the Ghost skill and Limited-Edition Destiny 2 Ghost. The lines between in-game and out-of-game have been blurred in an incredible new way.”

“Alexa is now part of the Destiny 2 experience, and we’re excited for what that means for Destiny 2 players and the future of games and voice technology,” said Steve Rabuchin, Vice President, Amazon Alexa. “Gaming is an example of where voice can create a more engaging experience in a natural and delightful way for customers. Rather than interrupting gameplay to navigate menus, players can just ask Ghost through Alexa to help with certain tasks. Players love the Destiny 2 experience, and now Alexa can make it even more immersive and fun.”

“Destiny 2 players being able to interact with a physical Ghost paired with an Amazon Alexa is just a really fun and unique idea,” said Pete Parsons, CEO of Bungie. He added, “With our partners at Activision, it’s been exciting to develop this project into a rich, useful skill worthy of Amazon’s Alexa.”

Also announced is the Limited-Edition Destiny 2 Ghost, a WiFi enabled Ghost speaker which is compatible with Alexa devices to bring the look and sound of the Ghost from inside the game into the real world. The Limited-Edition Destiny 2 Ghost and Echo Dot speaker bundle is available for pre-order now with a RRP of £129.89, and can be purchased separately as a companion to Alexa devices with a RRP of £79.99. The physical Ghost is not needed to use the free Destiny 2 Ghost skill, but the game and an Alexa device are required. The Limited-Edition Destiny 2 Ghost will be available on the 19th December, 2017.

What an utter waste of money. These companion experiences never go down well because literally nobody gives a toss about them nor wants them. It didn't work when every big publisher went mad trying to push companion apps for phones on people by advertising crap extra features in their games, it certainly isn't going to work if you have to pay £130 for a speaker!

Umm, you don't. It'll work with a regular Echo device. If you own one already, then it's something you can play with for free and then never bother with again.

It's a silly gimmick; I don't see the harm, but I also don't see the point. Devs have tried this before with "second screen" experiences on phones and tablets, and it hasn't ever caught on.

Ah, the wording of the extract seemed to imply it was £130 and you get the speaker plus an Echo Dot. I just assumed it was necessary to own the speaker.

Regardless, still a naff idea.

Remember when UT let you command bots with voice? That worked amazingly well! The only other time it's ever worked that well was End War.

Bungie has locked some of their content off unless you buy the new expansion pack. Without it you can no longer run Prestige versions of the Nightfall and the Raid.

Bungie/Activision just keep on digging that hole.

For anyone wondering about getting Microsoft and Sony to refund you if you didn't buy the DLC you're in luck! This may likely be removed, but Bungie done f%£ked up! Whatever money grabbing idiots are running the show finally went too far so go ahead and contact Sony and Microsoft for your refund while you can. You simply need to tell them that D2 is now broken due to the DLC and can't be completed. What I hear you ask. Well thanks to their utter stupidity Bungie moved an achievement to behind the paywall.

This achievement is on record with Microsoft and Sony as being in the vanilla game! It can't be achieved now without paying for the optional DLC. Yep the prestige achievement has been locked behind the paywall! Your base game is now officially not able to be completed and you can get a refund. Took me just 20 minutes and some back and forth-ing as neither Sony nor Microsoft are aware Bungie did this!

You don't have to even try too hard just make sure the assistant at the other end understands that you can't get all the achievements and thus can't Platinum (Sony) and 100% (Microsoft) the game as it stands. Don't lie though. You don't need to as you and everyone else including S and M will not have known this was going to happen.
