They're definitely in the horror genre though.

So you prefer Resi when the zombies take the back seat? ¬_¬

Zombies in themselves are not scary. Resi 4 didn't even have zombies so I'm not sure they are a pre-requisite in a Resident Evil game.

When I talk about horror I am talking about the game being primarily about trying to scare you or making you feel uneasy when playing. Something like Amnesia or Fire Night at Freddie's are games where the horror is front and centre, whilst the Resident Evil series has often been about the action first. With 7 it feels and looks very much like they are going more towards the horror end.

Resident Evil's horror has always stemmed more from trying to wrestle with the cumbersome controls than it throwing anything genuinely scary at you. This new rendition seems to be going more for that Amnesia/P.T vibe. Shame it relies so much on jump scares though.

A mate of mine came round last night and installed the full game on my machine via his Steam account and the funny thing was it wasn't until we actually loaded it up that I realised he'd not only not even played the demo but he'd also not read a single review or knew much about the game so his reaction to the first few minutes was glorious to say the least as it was not at all what he was expecting.

He's a huge long term Resi fan and we even played through Resi 5 in split screen coop together start to finish.

Soon as the game started with the car he was all "wait, is this the game!?" he honestly had no idea what he had let himself in for - much to my ongoing amusement. Anyway he managed to get down some ladders and at about the 25 minute mark freaked out by his players hands responding to scenery bits and suddenly the game just bloody crashed which was his excuse to stop playing. He did say that he thought games couldn't get him like that any more and it was the first time since the original Amnesia that a game had genuinely made him properly stuck to one spot scared to move nervous.

Managed to talk to him briefly later on and he said he absolutely loved it. It cost him just £22 I believe. Defo going to get it myself when I get some cash together based on what I saw him play.
Her face is tired. Leave her be ffs.

Sod it. Going to grab a copy today. Might as well give myself and my wallet a scare.

Hah. The amount of hand mutilation in the first hour alone.

I'm digging it so far. The idea of a first person horror game that's got a bit of a wacky 70s b-movie vibe to it is fun. Maybe I'm just picking it up wrong, but it's not like the self-serious attempts at psychological horror or torture porn like a lot of similar games.

It's still in Texas Chainsaw territory at the moment, so know knows what it'll be like if/when it turns into a Resident Evil game. :-k

Read some reviews on this. Haven't bought one of these in years might just give this one a shot.

Just stopping by again to say this game is pretty damn awesome. :)
Feels like I'm near the end, but already considering a second run. Gotta get all those collectables, you know?

I am really torn here - on the one hand I am a total lily-livered weed when it comes to teh scary games, on the other I loved Resi 1 and 2 back in the day.

I may pick this up but just know I will regret it if I do. Being mentioned in the same breath as Amnesia should really tell me to keep my wallet in my pocket!
