Call of Duty will "return to its roots" after Infinite Warfare sales disappoint
Space setting "didn't resonate", Activision finally admits.

Which is crazy, as it was one of the best Call of Duties in a good little while. I really enjoyed it.
Of course, I'm saying that as someone who doesn't care about multiplayer and just doesn't get along with the Treyarch games (they just look and feel wrong).

So, any bets as to where they go from here? I imagine they'll keep on splitting it up. Maybe instead of zombies mode, or whatever they continue to bolt onto the franchise, it's just a full on competitive mode themed around Modern/WW2 weapons. Or the opposite way around. Have the base game grounded with high-tech stuff on the side.
It just seems like they're too far gone down the Titanfall rabbit hole to pull back on parkour jetpack stuff now.

Edit: I forgot, they're already teasing something WW2 themed, right? Should be fun.

And so the circle of life starts again, we'll be up to our tits in WW2 shooters in no time.

Not if Sledghammer's game is the WW2 one.

I'm not surprised to see them pull back from the future stuff, it wasn't popular when announced and that has shown up in the sales numbers.

I think people are turned off from the more recent games because of the awful microtransaction system, ludicrous perks and poor net code. Maybe the sci-fi setting wasn't especially well received, but I imagine the other issues that have been getting progressively worse with each iteration have been a larger factor.

Going back to a WW2 setting would be a good move, but it won't be much help if they don't address the other problems that have made this franchise feel so stagnant.

They need to take it off the rails a bit and slow down the pace to my mind. Maybe that's a personal opinion and way off the mark but I know it's the main reason I don't bother with it anymore.

Maybe even better...launch a new original IP altogether. That'd be novel.
