I loved this on the N64 and the whacky cheats you could do like disco mode and the line/texture mode

It's, umm, not much of a remaster, is it. I don't remember it looking any worse on the N64.

It isn't the N64 version, they have said it is a remaster of the PC version of the game.

Only difference must be view distance as it looks the exact same as the N64 to me.

Saying it's a port of the N64 version or the PC version is splitting hairs. They both looked the bloody same :P
IMO :P  :P  :P

I'm sure the PC version would have had better textures than the N64 one.

The developer has detailed the changes that have been made.

Support for high resolutions, and widescreen.
Improved gameplay and level design.
OpenGL for video backend to provide portability and support for vertical sync.
Dynamic lighting, bloom, FXAA, enhanced water effects, lights shafts and more.
Ability to freely rebind all keyboard, mouse, and gamepad inputs.
Steam Achievements.

I'm not sure of the rationale behind adding those sorts of effects when the level geometry and models are this basic. I suppose if they've ported all of the models to a new engine, it may not be a lot of work, but this is a first generation 3D shooter and nothing bar a complete remake is going to make it look any different.

The N64 version had fog up the yingyang and was utter dog shit to boot.

The 64 version is about 4 mins in.

Turok 2 was passable at the time, but 1? No thanks.

Turok 2 was pretty foggy too, but I remember being pretty impressed by the graphics at the time. All thanks to the N64 expansion pack. :P

Yeah, but like you say the magic of the expansion pack papered over many cracks. It's surely utter toilet now too, but man that cerebral bore. :)
