Vampyr- New game from Dontnod

Postby DjchunKfunK » Thu Jan 22, 2015 8:52 am

Dotnod, the guys behind Remember Me and the upcoming Life is Strange, have revealed what their next big project is. It's going to be an action RPG called Vampyr.

It is set immediately after the end of the First World War and you play a Doctor who has been treating people who have Spanish Flu. He is bitten by one of his patients and turns into a Vampire. Apparently the game will be big on choice with your character torn between the desire to save as a Doctor and the desire to kill and the choices you make wont be clear cut. It all sounds very Vampire Bloodlines-like.

It's still in early development so it has no release date, but I like the premise and having seen visually what Dotnod are capable of this could end up looking pretty good. They just need to make sure the gameplay is a lot tighter than it was in Remember Me.

An ARPG though? The Vampire genre is one that I would think wide open for making a great game from, but a Diablo-styled clickathon isn't the genre that I would think particularly lends itself. Oh well, very mildly intrigued.

I would think by action RPG they mean third person so Tomb Raider style with RPG elements, not over-head Diablo style.

As with all Dotnod games visually it looks rather good.

So some mixed reviews, seems to be in the 6-7/10 range.

I am intrigued but am not sold by some of the videos I have watched.

May buy the canary cage at some stage, but will wait and see for a while I think.

Same-ish. I'm intrigued by the screenshots and the general tone of the game reading reviews, but it does seem like it has some niggles and/or issues, and seeing as the game is currently priced at £45 on Steam (I've not checked CDkeys.com and the like), I think while I probably will get it at some point, it's likely to be way down the line after a steep discount.

Edit: have now checked the above, site, and it can currently be had for £28:

Still too much for me, but if/when it drops to circa £15 I think that's the point I'd pick it up.

£25 on HRK...

https://www.hrkgame.com/en/games/product/vampyr/

Looks like a seriously missed opportunity from everything I've been reading. What could have been a wonderful mix of a semi Bloodborne coupled with Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines looks like it perhaps just doesn't have enough going for it to warrant a buy until it's patched up/seriously discounted. A shame since the actual world they have crafted looks right up my alley, no pun intended. I'm somewhat obsessed with the White chapel/Ripper era and the investigatory aspect really calls out to me.

edit: Ok this video has swayed me quite a bit. More than a bit in fact.
