Remind me never to come to your house for dinner.

Anyway just recently finished Black Flag so when Next (Current) Gen approaches for me, will muster through Unity (for the sake of it) and pick this up. My thirst for AC is anew.

Gentleman's Relish with your main course sir?

Do yourself a favour, skip Unity. It is only in playing this one soon after playing Unity that I realise how badly they dropped the ball.

I like what they did with the free running in Unity. It makes it so much less of a chore to climb down from rooftops.

The rest of the game was just by the books boring tosh though.

Syndicate keeps that style of movement, but adds in the grapple gun to make the climbing up equally less of a chore. You can still climb if you want to, or just grapple your way up.

Hah. I'm having a weird time with this.
Trying to find a graphical setting that isn't apparently giving me motion sickness. With the V-synch on the controls feel laggy, causing the camera moment to become somewhat more dizzying. With V-synch off there's torn screens in such a way that they're screwing with my eyes.

It's just a matter of finding which one makes me less likely to keel over, and stick with that until I either adjust to it. Or, you know, give up in nauseous defeat.

Sorry. Personal ramblings and nothing to do with the game. Not even hit the open world part of it yet.

What I will say is that, for Victorian London, everyone has very nice teeth and rather posh accents. Even with child labourers, it's a bit like a Dickensian pantomime.

Had a free code for this so I claimed it. Played a little yesterday. Seems good and the setting is interesting.

Seems like I can choose to play as either evie or Jacob any tips here? How did you guys that played this choose which character you would play with? Did you play a mix of both or could you just play the entire game with just one character? The skill points I earn on one character do you get a matching set of points to use on the other character or do I need to choose to share them between both?

I mix and match - Evie is better for a stealthy approach, Jacob more of a bruiser. Iirc you get points on both, as well as items for both (really need to give this more time over the hols).

If your after more of the similar what your used to with the series then I'd say yes. It's better in subtle ways than many of the previous but they really haven't innovated the gameplay to any serious degree.

For me I don't know why I buy these games. I like them initially but after a few hours I just realise I'm doing the same missions in ever so slightly different places from the last set of missions and get bored of it all. The side missions for the various historical characters aren't bad.

See I am really quite enjoying it. Granted I do like the series despite all the animus wank (mercifully almost completely omitted this time around) but wandering around a city I know well is cool, and the missions etc are better overall than previous efforts. Plus Jacob and Evie are both likeable types which helps.

The one new aspect this game that may just push it to a purchase for some is the new grapple ability which very much changes the mechanics of the game for the better once you get given it a few hours in. Prior to that the game feels like the exact same slog you experienced with every city based AC game to date.

Combat is even worse than it was in Unity in this I feel with all fighting animations looking like they are sped up to almost comedic looking speeds. I paid just £12 for this and still felt underwhelmed by it all.

Well I am enjoying it, not finding it a slog at all. I find myself doing a bit of a Fallout 4 with it, thinking "Right I am going to head over and do that mission" and getting distracted by protecting or hijacking a supply cart, clearing a gang hideout, running a templar hunt (love those) etc. Doing each helps unlock different London boroughs, with a nice scrap with the boss of that borough to finish the hostile takeover. Combat is just fine, fast and fluid.
The Grapple is a great addition too.

Yeah, me like.

Think that's the problem I have most with this Ian. You do the same mission types in each borough and mini borough and they are samey and suffers that same open worldy sameness. I do like the characters of evie and Jacob though they interest me much more than the game does.

I know I know I know I bang on about witcher 3 but for an open world that feels not like an open world cookie cutter game then that's the bench mark dev's should more be aiming for in future. It just feels alive. Maybe it's just me :)
