Overwatch: Cavalry's 'ere

Postby Raid » Fri Nov 07, 2014 9:58 pm

The short story: Blizzard unveil their competitor to Team Fortress 2.

The long story:

I'd argue that giving it a comic-book aesthetic makes it a little too close to TF2, but it's a good look. It appears the two teams are asymmetrical, so balance could take a little while to get right, but frankly Blizzard are pretty good at that.

Also from Blizzcon: More Starcraft 2, Heroes of the Storm closed beta starting in January, Hearthstone for Android (tablets) coming in December, GOBLINS VERSUS GNOMES.

The trailer left me thinking they were getting into making kids TV shows personally. Colour me interested.

Doesn't this sound kind of like the rumours for Titan? I wonder if the people who were leaking the info on the game had it confused with this project?

Still, looks pretty cool. I'll certainly give it a shot though I doubt I'll be any good enough at it.

This is the worst accent I've ever heard

Wallhacks and aimbots used to be cheating, now they're a feature. Turrets are shit, putting more of them in a game does not make them better. How much did they pay Konami to put Cyborg Ninja in the game?

I remain unconvinced. From a purely gameplay perspective it looks like there are a lot of abilities that are one-hit kills and that would quickly become very annoying when playing. It could just be the way they put it together to make the character classes each seem cool, but even on the gameplay footage at the end some of the abilities seemed to mow down enemies.

There are an interesting selection of classes there and the art style is probably different enough from TF2 that it looks unique. However in terms of modes it seems that they are copying the TF2 template exactly, for now at least.

It is one to keep an eye on certainly as Blizzard don't make bad games, but my initial reaction is one of concern.

Teaser bumf has my attention, looks awesome! No gameplay though?

TF2 looks amazing from all the bumf but I hate how it plays so I'll have to stay on the fence.

Well alright, but there's enough in there to show what the game's about; it's better than a lot of developers manage.

This is the multi-player aspect lifted straight out of Titan according to someone from within the project.

Looks quite a lot like Team Fortress 2 crossed with Smite.

The gameplay looks like it could be a laugh, but the actual character design doesn't seem all that inspiring. Maybe that's just because TF2's characters are so brilliant that anything else just falls short by comparison. Either way I'll be looking to get into the beta for this.

I rather like the character design personally; it's not massively original, no (I'm not sure that any long-time gamer could look at that ninja character and not think of Gray Fox), but there are a lot of power suit type things that satisfy my mecha cravings. My initial response to the introduction cinematic was that Blizzard are launching their own X-Men, which is no bad thing, I just think it's a shame that they're doing Team Fortress rather than something more story driven.
