I would not want CDPR anywhere near the Star Wars license. I would much rather they work on their own IP where they have the creative freedom to make the games they want. Part of the reason that these Star Wars games are often such a mess is because of the process you have to go through to get things OK'ed by the people at Disney.

I'd love CDPR's creatively free take on Star Wars.

"Fuck'in 'ave it, Darth!"

"You're goin' down Obi, you old fucka!"

Aye think you would run into that problem on every minor thing for the game. Not like Lucas who was busy looking at the wads of cash and approving a lot of dumb games in the SW license.

According to this CNBC report, EA has shed $3 billion in stock value since the launch of Star Wars Battlefront 2, and the fallout could impact the future direction of its entire business.

EA's share price is down 8.5 percent since the beginning of November.

Excellent news, assuming Battlefront's controversy was the cause of it.

The video from the Hawaiian politician explicitly calls out the game and says "Star Wars shouldn't encourage gambling". Disney will absolutely chew their arses out if this gets any bigger and Battlefront stays as the main focus of it.

Pretty sure that gambling is how Han ended up with the Millenium Falcon in the first place.

I find it odd that everyone is championing Disney as some hero of the consumer in all this nonsense. It's Disney ffs, if they're not complicit in all this in some way then I'll eat my hat.

Oh I don't think anyone is naive enough to think that Disney would do anything out of the goodness of their hearts. But they are fiercely protective of their brand image and this whole gambling thing will rile them up no end if people keep linking it with Star Wars. I'm sure they gave the go ahead for the loot boxes when EA briefed them on the whole concept for Battlefront, but they probably didn't fully understand the controversy and ethical questions around them. Who knows.

Rather than Disney acting like some sort of champion for the little guy I see this more like the Emperor giving Darth Vader a chewing out for letting the rebels steal the Death Star plans.

My mate bought this so Ive been giving it a spin. Its not bad.

Multiplayer:
No idea what it was actually like at launch but on loading up had around half the heroes already unlocked and after 4-5 hours of SP and 3-4 hours of MP Ive pretty much got them all unlocked. The card system on heroes is shitty (you level them up by crafting cards and higher level heroes can equip 3 cards) but it didnt seem that stingy with the crafting parts to make them.... upgrading them might take a bit of time right enough which gives incremental percentage boosts but not a massive amount. The non hero units can all equip 3 cards from the start. Unlocking the guns is, imo, the worst of them all. They unlock at 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 kills with each class with no shortcut to get there with crafting parts which is pretty lame. That said, the starting weapons all seem good, not underpowered.

Playing it, it plays a fuuuuuck load better than the first Dice game which I couldnt stand. Ive had a decent bit of fun playing this. Dont think I'll stick very long because I prefer way smaller player counts but for what it is its actually pretty good. Weapons feel nice, abilities are fun, looks cracking and sounds amazing. Cant say I'm a fan of the hero system right enough, they're CoD scorestreaks (not killstreaks).

Single player
So much better than I was expecting! Theres a few gameplay sections that get a bit boring but theres also really great bits too. The moment to moment writings often top notch and Shriv might be my favorite Star Wars character ever. The final bit on the Retribution ruined it though because I had it in mind we were going there for a whole different reason than the utterly stupid one that acts out. So yea, found that a really enjoyable 4-5 hours. Theres a second shorter campaign (free) DLC Ive not tried yet thats set in the New Order era - the original campaign being set around RotJ era.

Want a Shriv & Lando buddy movie more than any other Star Wars film!
Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?
