You mean the one in this video? I think the maps are more "themes" and are less restrictive than you first think.

Ahh I see.

Seems to be getting average reviews.

http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/star-wa ... 0-6416311/

7/10

http://www.usgamer.net/articles/star-wa ... er-shooter

3.5/5

http://www.videogamer.com/reviews/nextg ... eview.html

7/10

http://www.giantbomb.com/reviews/star-w ... /1900-728/

3/5

Basically the consensus seems to be that it looks great, is fun to play, but there is not enough content to keep you playing.

EDIT: The USGamer review is fairly damming of the Walker Assault mode, it seems that it is still pretty unbalanced and therefore not fun to play.

Just to clarify the maps thing. Walker Assault and Supremacy only have four maps each.

I keep having these moments where I want to play this, but it seems obvious that the game will die a death on PC with it's limited content and expensive DLC plan.
Knowing EA, they'll probably do one of their "playtime" things for it.

Speaking of which, anyone still playing Battlefield 4 these days? I'm itching for a well made grand scale multiplayer shooter and if BF4 is still alive, might consider picking up the Premium and getting back into it.

Not a universal opinion, judging by the Gamespot review:

Walker Assault is the embodiment of innovative game modes.

I uninstalled Battlefield 4 just the other day as I hadn't touched it in months, no idea what the PC community is like right now I'm afraid.

Something can be innovative and still unbalanced.

I didn't do the full quote as it runs for several paragraphs on it, but he basically says it is the best part of the game and the bit he enjoyed the most.

I'm not saying either viewpoint is wrong as I've not played it, more highlighting how wildly different two reviews of the same game can be at times.

Full quote:

And then there's Walker Assault.

This is Battlefront at its best. Walker Assault offers more emergent gameplay moments and, in contrast to much of the game's combat elsewhere, it lends the sense of a bigger objective. Imperials escort--and rebels attempt to destroy--AT-ATs as they march toward the base at the end of a path. That dichotomy between objectives means a different experience for both sides, and with numerous offensive and defensive options, battles unfold with surprising variety.

My favorite match took place on Endor. As a member of the Imperial team, I prioritized speed over anything else, sprinting along pathways toward Rebel uplink stations. If they captured enough of these, they would call more Y-wings in for bombing runs against our quadrupedal machine. So of course, I wanted to protect those stations.

But as the game progressed, and both sides adapted to the other's strategy, things changed. The Rebels made better use of their defensive turrets and whittled away at the AT-AT's health during bombing runs. So I began sniping from Ewok tree structures above the battle, focusing my aim on enemies operating laser turrets. In the end, we still lost--a well timed orbital strike brought our offensive juggernaut to its knees--but the battle remained engaging throughout. Walker Assault is the embodiment of innovative game modes.
My face is tired.

There's a fair few servers still running a variety of game modes out there, I was playing it only last week (and no, not Locker).

I rage uninstalled months ago but there are still lots of things going on with the game. It is still alive, a series of night versions of some maps has been released plus there is an impending new map release planned (you can play it now via the CTE server although it is yet to go live globally).

Cinematic trailer for it.

Not really sure how Walker Assault can be called innovative when it's basically just rush mode from Battlefield with AT-ATs.

The addition of AT-ATs to anything is always innovative. Who would expect that?!
