Personally Hearthstone and Dota 2 are fun to watch, but it probably helps that I enjoy playing those games in the first place so can get more out of them as a spectator. I was watching so CS: GO randomly the other day though and I was surprised at how fun I found that to watch.

When it comes to Esports I don't think you can set out with the express aim of making your game the next big Esports thing. You have to make a good game and hope that the community builds up around it.

You need a good game with a lot of complexity I reckon to get a good amount of people playing it long term. Looking at the past failures and ones canned they all went the opposite way in making them easier in the hope of a larger playerbase far quicker. To then find that people are hardly likely to ditch there Dota/LoL etc for the commitment they've made to them as well.

Maybe, but Hearthstone is relatively simple when you compare it to something like Magic so you don't always need to go for the complicated angle.

I don't see hearthstone having a huge lifeline, it's really not that exciting and the plays aren't exactly "oh shiiiiiiit". It's a fine mobile game but as an esport? Nah.

Nidhogg on the other hand :p

Is Hearthstone E-sports though? That game is just luck of the draw for the most part.

I could see Nidhogg being more of a e-sport due to the timings and second guessing but that maybe because I find Hearthstone so dreadful to watch. Even TB or Trump playing it doesn't stop me from getting bored watching it.

I would disagree, some of the unique decks people bring to tournaments can make games very interesting and with the addition of a lot more random stuff in GvG there can be a fair few exciting moments. But like I said your level of enjoyment of an esport is often dictated by they level of enjoyment you get out of the original game.

It's much more than that. You have to know which cards to play when and have an understanding of what your opponent might have in their deck. Also in the tournament format you have to decide which decks to bring and what order you want to play them. If it was just down to luck then different people would be winning tournaments all the time, but that is not the case.

Some concept art for weapon and equipment designs, as well as a look at some of the locations in the game...

Conceptually speaking of course.
