And the whole world sighed and tried not to make awkward eye contact with Hitman.

Something about that trailer really gives me the impression that they didn't have a clue what to make the damn thing about.

This is sort of out today, the first Paris mission pack and tutorials are available. The other 7 will be released monthly, though you can buy them all upfront now for a slightly lower price.

Eurogamer give it a recommended so far.

Still, think I'll wait until the entire game is out. I don't really fancy paying £45 for one city right now.

You can get the full game for £32 at cdkeys or at GMG with their discount code. I've caved and gone for it - if it's anywhere as good as Blood Money I'll be sound as a pound.

I wonder if they'll do a boxed copy once the "Season" is over? Will probably wait for that so that I can have all my io-interactive games sitting together on a shelve.

Why? Because I'm a silly bugger fan-boy who still thinks that the team behind Hitman 2 and Freedom Fighters is still alive somewhere in the studio. It's the same dilemma I have with Monolith games. Blood, NOLF, F.E.A.R. Claw? Those fannies are long gone, and yet I still put the studio on a pedestal.

Sorry. What were we talking about?

The new Hitman?

It couldn't have come out with less fanfare. :?

No fanfare? That's an understatement. There isn't even any more than 1000 people streaming this on Twitch, which is abysmal for a launch day.

To be fair, a hitman that bursts into a room with a fanfare is not a very good hitman.

(Unless he's secretly planted a poison dart in one of the trumpets which happens to strike his target in the neck...?)

I think IO might have killed the series with their terrible messaging. Imagine if you didn't read gaming sites, you would have no idea about how this game was structured and what you get in the actual box.

I don't think they know it's a game.

I also love the fact that they demand 47 hits a woman for no reason and he refuses. For shame Barry!

I've finished the first mission (Paris) and it was great, back to the quality of Blood Money or thereabouts. I spent well over an hour exploring the area, looking for opportunities and skulking around in a variety of costumes. Everything inevitably went horribly wrong, of course, and in a panic I ended up flinging a kitchen knife at the target in full view of a thousand people or more before fleeing like a lunatic. #-o

I'll certainly be back in it soon to have a more subtle attempt. The scale and complexity of the mission area is enough to allow for many, many different murdery methods, which is exactly what Hitman should be about.

Is Jesper Kyd back on the soundtrack or is it the guy that scored the E3 trailer music for the whole game? Even if Kyd only did the intro theme this would be a first game to pick up complete after an upgrade (and the whole box should be a GOTY edition or down to Xmas sale pricing by then).

I'm pretty sure it's not Kyd but I can't remember off the top of my head who it is.

Second location is out and by all accounts it is very good.

Still have no intention of buying the game in its current incarnation (and judging by the Steam store page loads of people are having technical issues getting it to run), but once it's all been released and come down in price a little bit, and if they keep up the quality, then I'll probably check it out.
