This does have me excited.

I think it's a criminal waste of the 40k setting that a good FPS or RPG has yet to have been released bearing in mind there are 30 years(!) of source material to draw from.

GW is an odd company when it comes to licenses.

Can't even think of any other 40k fps games other than Fire Warrior, and that's pretty old now. Space Marine was a pretty strong third person action game.

I think for the most part they've been fairly solid with their licencing. It's just that over the last few years (2013-2015) there's been a fair few dodgy mobile titles that have been ported to PC. When you actually look at the list of Games Workshop video games there's a lot of good stuff on there.

We're really being spoiled with good ones at the moment though. Inquisitor, Dawn of War 3, Deathwing, Battlefleet Gothic Armada; plus the fantasy games that have come out recently.

There's been at least a couple other tactical FPS versions of space hulk in the past. Fair old now though I'll grant you ¬_¬

The board game is better.

Yeah, the board game was awesome. I remember painting up the miniatures as well. A happier more innocent time.

Yeah, I quiet like the storyline booklets for the different missions. Pity I had no one else to play it with, its not much fun moving the Blood Angels and GeneStealers yourself.

There was an old PC game version someone made on the sly once, included the mission storys and was very faithful, although it did add assault cannons.

The original 1988 board game had rules for assault cannons. At least in one of the expansions if not the base set. It was the 1996 second edition that simplified everything and removed assault cannons, though I think it was that version that the unofficial computer-game version you speak of was modelled on. Third edition board game came out in 2009, with a revised printing in 2014, both of which added the assault cannon back, along with streamlined psychic powers for the Librarian.

Yeah, the 1996 was the one I had. Only had flamers, bolt guns and power swords.

I've still got a 1996 edition knocking around somewhere. I never bothered to paint half of the genestealers but had a lot of fun playing when I was a kid. Classic game, all the more reason I'm excited for a video game that looks to actually do it justice.

Yep; and the flamer rules were changed so that they affected individual squares rather than an entire room.

'88 and '09 editions also had rules for Thunder Hammers, Storm Shields and Lightning Claws, and the flamer affects whole rooms.

I had the '88 version (Christ I'm old). I didn't realise they did later versions. I think it may still be sat up in the loft somewhere, assuming it hasn't fallen victim to one of Mum's scorched earth clearouts.

And I've just bought a flat with a spacious and largely empty loft; hmmmmm, this could be pleasing to me.
