Dying Light

Postby DjchunKfunK » Tue May 28, 2013 10:35 am

Techland have been pretty busy recently and have just announced another new game that they are currently working on. This one is another zombie game, but not set in the Dead Island world. This time the unique selling point is the implementation of a free-running system ala Mirrors Edge.

Everything else you expect from a zombie survival game is present and correct, but they have tweaked things slightly with an emphasis between night and day. During the day you will have to go out and scavenge for resources and kill any zombies you might come across. When night falls it is more about surviving than out-right killing and I guess this is where the free-running system comes into play. You will have access to melee weapons and guns and there is also a crafting system in place, similar to that seen in Dead Island.

The game is in development for current and next gen systems and will be out some time in 2014.

I really should get around to playing Mirrors Edge.

Yes you should, everyone should.

Not really bothered over the free running thing unless it's done fucking brilliantly and really adds to the game.

As for the idea of what they are proposing on night and day that could be interesting I guess, scavenging about...dusk setting in...time getting short for getting back home or deciding to make a stand where you are. Thinking similar to I Am Legend I suppose.

Now I make no bones about loving both Dead Island games (although man the upped zombie count on Riptide coupled with losing all my lovely toolage schematics has made it hard as a coffin nail) but... I would say that the movement is Techland's weakest element in the game. The amount of time I have spent trying to angle to jump onto an obviously positioned bunch of crates or the like.

Free running will need to be slicker than a greased pig to make it fun, and I wonder at their ability to do that.

Still, interesting concept, could be good.

Eurogamer preview.

It does sound rather interesting and if they could get it right it would be a great game. They also clear up why it isn't just called Dead Island 2 or 3. Deep Silver own the Dead Island license and this game is being developed with Warner Brothers.

Just a CGI trailer but could be promising.

I always tend to treat these things as meaningless fluff, but there is a very 'Blade 2' mutated strain vampire-esque quality to the roaring 'special' ( I presume) zombie in the sewers.

By the way Animal, speaking of Vampires, is that a publicity still of Paxton from 'Near Dark' in your sig?

It is indeed. Must watch it again actually, remember being unimpressed the last time I saw it.

I have always enjoyed it to be honest, a solid slice of Vampire cinema ( although interestingly the word isn't uttered in the film at all).

Small reunion with the 'Aliens' cast too in the film.

Quick question: Who did the music in that CG trailer?

I'd like to know so I can stay as far away as possible. :x

Looks basically identical to Dead Island, except with free running.

Dunno what to make of that in all honesty. Maybe im a bit Zombie-jaded lately or something. Does look very dead island-like for sure.
