Maps are here today \o/, official server update at some point tomorrow though that will probably mean that the servers will go from empty to hammered - but it's a nice problem to have compared to how it was before.

The rest of what was going to be in DLC2 will go out piecemeal like the first set but that's OK, it was maps that the game needed.

Re: Contagion (Successor to ZPS), 75% Flash+DLC maps here

Postby Nethlyn » Tue Jun 16, 2015 5:37 pm

Main Steam install and web servers updated so the new maps should be playable by all not just the private server rental crowd, so now 9Gb is the install size.

Didn't know about the flash sale but there's another day of the game being down to £3.74 and the four pack £11.24, so 6pm tomorrow (17th) it'll go back to either £7.49 or full price. Ever wanted to give the game a go, now's the time until the next time it's on a midweek.

Back to half price, £7.49, until the day after the end of the sale (22nd June).

New maps, the main two are good and difficult even if one of them's a remake. Not tried the other one which has started off as deathmatch only even though it's another remake, if they add escape mode to it then it'll only help matters. Just nice to see the game get a shot in the arm and people are playing again on a weeknight.

No worries Pew :) Happened to succeed in the newest map by complete accident, saw that every objective caused its own time-delayed horde forcing you to run and gun with the lead group rather than camping too much. Still have to learn it properly and win the map from start to finish, but have to get on with a new mic now as you just can't type and run.

Determined to finish Far Cry 3...finished 28/2/14. Not quite sure where this genre goes now...

Worth a shot?

Sorry I didn't see this post when I was away, for the record that's the cheapest price I've ever paid for all my copies, I think one other one I gifted was £7.49. As you've seen Humble and other code bundlers have their own offers that may be better.

[EDIT]Hopefully the new map will mean Flatline is finished, so will get on and reinstall Steam and the game.

Is the thread where the admins are grouping together extra keys from Humble Bundles that the buyers are giving away if they only wanted the one.

So if you ever felt like trying the game for free then watch this thread and see if you can get a key as it's posted up.

Installing this for the first time in yonks, nearly six months, in that time the soundtrack is proper DLC so can be bought to support the devs, that's £1.59 on its own and will probably return to its normal price whenever, unless that is the normal price. The entire complete install was listed at nearly 14gigs then settles to just over 6gigs, whether Flatline works or not I'm not worried about it now, just want to have the occasional blast as there are other games to concentrate on.

Neth, give us a quick summary of why you love this so much? I've only tried it a little but never seen anything special in it to drag me in over other (seemingly) similar mods but your undying love keeps me looking at the installer with interest

I lost my post the first time I tried to answer that Alan mate (and there may be quite a few edits to this one) but would say that Contagion's the modern ZPS still and that kept me playing. The larger maps and improved MP handling through Steam have also been a great help along with the achievement goals actually being difficult for the level completions when playing solo at Hard difficulty. On Hard there is no L4D2-ing your way through Contagion in a mad speed rush, you are just signing your death warrant and that of your team when you hoard ammo and essential pickups and run off to be a lone wolf in co-op and fail to share resources around.

It also helps that for the original escape maps anyway the gate system had two endings so you could practice for either and even if you hit Youtube for a walkthrough the Z's are randomised enough to make every game different according to the randomised location of 90% of the pickups and ammo/tools etc. Maybe the game held more of my attention for lacking much hand-holding of any kind, you have to go into a deathmatch (Hunted) map solo and practice the weapon handling against the Z's and generally fire into the wall for the automatics, that way you don't struggle when playing Co-op and having to conserve ammo for the specific group rushes. [Easter Edit] and now I've finally added a working mic after over 280 hours it's like playing the game all over again for the first time as communication is a million times easier, so you can go on recces and cover each other against rushes with only the occasional superfast Z to surprise you on Normal difficulty.

However for all the love-to-hate jibes aimed at Activision with their COD DLC policy, when you pay for DLC it arrives on a schedule, when the DLC is free as it is for Contagion that's great but you wait and there is no cover when the devs have staffing changes, rights issues over assets or any other problem that causes long delays. The dev is also working on their next game which I will also look to support at launch like I did with this one if there's a good price so there will be as many maps coming from the Workshop community as the devs when averaging out how long the Contagion maps and the Flatline mode have taken to drop.

If it drops to £2.99 on Steam or less in Humble Bundle at Easter then I would say go for it but learn to aim and only play on Hard difficulty when used to the controls and then you will get the most out of it (despite dying a lot :) ). I'm only going to be back playing it properly after a reinstall but we can *try* to organise an Easter play if you know you're going to pick it up because when a team is really gelling together and playing like a unit and not getting themselves killed trying to be a hero with a melee weapon or wasting ammo like it's L4D then Contagion's still a great experience. I'm looking out for Flatline mode to have some more maps if they don't have to be as large as the most popular Escape type of map.

Keep checking the Steam Community thread as well because some Humble buyers dump their keys if they get duplicates or multiples.

Excellent to hear that Gibby, I know that people will have plans over Easter especially when trying to catch Batman v Superman, so let me know what day's best for a sesh if we have the four day weekend and I will have to have done my Spring reinstall in time for that.
