Now that L4D2 looks like Valve has dumped it, thought I'd keep an eye out for this spiritual successor to the big freebie mod. Definitely a game I would put money in the pot for if they want pay-as-you-like community donations, when you consider the step up from freebie ZPS in the gameplay trailer.

I don't know much else about it and it's better that way, nothing I've seen looks like a remake of any of the ZPS levels (yet) but if they maintain the 16 players of ZPS or have humans v Zombie bots in the mission-styled campaigns, then it ought to be pickup and play fun in Killing Floor style. Can't wait!

Nearly two years later the game is nearly ready, I'd forgotten about it until the recent Steam announcements and didn't know they'd gone Kickstarter as well.

Bit of a chicken and egg, when it comes along I just want to buy it, but they need funds for expenses that judging by other Kickstarter projects going for a million bucks, makes Contagion feel like it only needs pocket-change. If it's a ZPS sequel, still excited.

The moddb site explanation/walkthrough video looks very promising indeed. I used to play ZPS a long time ago, but this looks leagues ahead of it.

Will think about throwing some cash at it when payday rolls around next week. Nice box art too.

Just went back through the site, if 20 bucks / £12.53 would get me the soundtrack and early access, at launch it's 50/50 what price it would be, outside of a Steam sale, then I could delay Planetary Annihilation until nearer Xmas and get this now.

Played the 'escape' and 'extraction' modes last night after getting my keys.

Quite a bit of fun, although 'extraction' took a bit of working out, specifically where to get the survivors to.

The build is quite stable, a few glitches with AI but nothing too game breaking, the occasional control issue (i couldn't get my extra ammo to drop at all). A few issues have been reported, most of which are detailed in the support forum to include trouble with joining friends hosted games and black screen lock-ups. I had one CTD on the loading screen, just before you spawn in ( as did a friend of mine in the exact same place) and then managed to play without further incident. We had 8 players on our team last night and that perhaps is too many, a more comfortable amount is 4-5 for the levels i thought. The co-op community put in a good show last night too, sharing and helping as we all got to grips with the game.

The shotgun is a very satisfying indeed in use and in the sound of it.

In short, the game has a fair bit of promise to it.

As it turned out, they did put it into the Steam sale, one of the offers went on for longer than planned so I snagged the £2.99 option for just the game itself. Will have to check the Steam charts because they should have easily sold six figures down at that price for people willing to try it, never mind fans. Still happy to support them with other things I know that they had general plans to flog the soundtrack separately, either that or I'd happily gift someone else the game next job time.

Maybe it's a little demanding for my PC, I'll have to tweak down some graphical settings, but enjoyed its general escape mode on a solo playtest. Knowing the right times to play so you can get into a server is my only problem really, not had many tech glitches probably due to waiting for it to launch.

First proper play racking up two hours, the verdict: excellent base to grow from and once reduced to 16 x 12 for 4:3 res it runs as quickly as any other Source game on an old PC, any Intel machine wouldn't break a sweat if you had 8Gb RAM. The park level is deliberately claustrophobic until you reach the central "pond" area, where you can get 10-15 attacking in one go, so in SP where you have all the ammo to yourself you can learn the maps and live long enough to properly explore.

Having to aim properly in a Zombie game is strange :) but rewarding, you can channel your innner Walking Dead TV Show and take them down one at a time. Unlike ZPS you can carry around other ammo without slowing down. On the Roanoake PD and Aurora Estates levels you get a lot more "Velociraptor" zombies that scale the fences and attack from the side whilst you're aiming at the Z you saw in front of you, right now that all adds to the challenge and you can take damage in multiples of 10 until you find a medkit. In the non-Hunted modes I'm pretty sure Infection would be another game element from the "lead" Zombie, I will have to try extraction in a proper server but I'm happy the game's been worth the wait.

Thanks, I will have to get back to NMRiH if their servers can host more than 8 players at a time, not sure whether that's Contagion's deliberate limit unless you rent a server or whether they coded it like that to keep the gameplay at decent connection rates for all.
