That doesn't really work though. As someone said up the thread replace the cutscene files with text documents and the thing loads in seconds. I've an ssd drive, above average other hardware and i can't skip the things at all. After i finished the game i decided to have a shot at one of the other modes (can't remember which) and tried to skip the opening cutscene. I quit out after about 3 minutes.

I'm torn. The PCG review gave me low hopes and I'm pleasantly surprised by the game, but...it's really shit in places. Unskippable cutscenes are ok, it's just the sheer volume of them. I don't need a cutscene of le going through a door. Or talking in a lift. The gameplay to cutscene ratio is probably 50% and its inexcusable.

I disagree. I think it works in its favour.

It keeps you playing. The amount of times I've said I'll stop playing after the next cutscene and then another hour has past speaks of an evil genius at work.

You like it now, but what about replay value.

I DONT WANT TO WATCH THEM ONCE LET ALONE MANY TIMES, I JUST WANT TO SHOOT BADS IN THE BALLBAG!

But that'd be the case even if there were no cutscenes and the story was advanced somewhat more traditionally OR through the classic comic panels.

Alternatively, If the cutscnes are required to keep you interested then it fails as a game.

Number of cutscenes would have been fine if they had been skippable. To have to sit through all of them, sometimes for minutes at a time, is shite.
My face is tired.

Similar thing almost ruined Mafia 2 for me, about 10 hours long and only half of it you get to have the controls (at least that's what it felt like). And sure enough, the best parts of the game by a million miles are the bits where you have the controls...

Sounds similar to MP3.

I mean that once the cutscene is over your being shot at almost immediately and have little choice but to play on or just quit mid action. I've only played it through once so the sc's never bothered me. On a 2nd play through it might be a bit irritating alright.

I've realised the music....ALL of the music... is excellent. Stand out parts are in the favellas, and the very very last battle.

Conflicting views it seems, guess I will have to try a demo, if there is one available.

Just buy it on steam sale, might as well!

I do like how Max slows down and changes animation when going up and down stairs. We don't get that enough in games.

GTA4, RDR and LA Noire did it, so no surprise that MP3 has stair animations too...

The Uncharted series does it best, from what I've seen.

One of the very few soundtracks that I've put onto a disc, brilliant stuff.

So just completed MP3. Actually that is a bit of a white lie - the final boss fight at the airport was so hard (playing on Hard) that I have up and watched the last 10 minutes on YouTube.

I had a blast (pun intended) throughout. This is perhaps one of the few trilogies where each part (game) is as good as the other.

I will definitely revisit this game in the future. Shame you could not throw grenades but hey ho. Superb fun was had.
