Black Mesa - Out Now!

Postby Dabs » Tue Jun 07, 2005 5:24 pm

A few more screens for my most anticipated HL2 mod have been released, so in case anyone's interested, I thought I'd share. Black Mesa: Source is essentially "the real Half-Life: Source", i.e. what we'd all initially hoped HL: Source would be - Half-Life remade in the Source engine. It's currently on a "when it's done" schedule, but is coming along brilliantly and officiandos will have no trouble recognising the locations.

Superb, this will put Valve to shame for releasing such a half-assed Half-Life: Source.

Did they not say that that HL:S was just a muck about, to see if the original game could be ported over?

Also, I cant help but feel that someone might be sued or shut down over this. I've seen dev teams flip out over lesser mods. Did one guy not try to make a Duke 3d level in HL2 and it got his ass a "Cease and Desist"?

This has been around for a while though - you'd've (8)) thought Valve would've already acted. Here's hoping. I wonder when it will ever get finished - it could be years really couldn't it? Ah well.

yes but anything with Duke Nukem needs to be shut down or suspended indefinately; otherwise it's just not cool.

Anyway, that looks ace. What I always imagined HL: Source to be.

Won't happen with this. As you said, Valve created HL: S just as a muck about, to test the ease with which their game could be ported over to the Source engine. HL: Source was always meant as a straight port, not to "fool" anyone into thinking that's the best HL could look in Source. I think it was Gabe who also said that it was "inevitable" that a mod team convert HL to Source properly and are well aware of BM:S; I'd imagine Valve are happy to see that now being realised. This mod's in absolutely no danger at all, thankfully. :D

I know it's a 'done-when-it's-done' project, but is there any timescale at all?
