Phoenix Point

Postby Lee » Sun Apr 08, 2018 3:55 am

From the original creator of the X-com series here is Julian Gollop. Homage to X-com in Phoenic Point and some videos of it

Looks interesting and since I din't get along with the new Xcom titles maybe this will.

So might just grab it on release instead.

Interesting that he's having a go at making one of these again. I'll keep an eye on its development.

At first glance, it looks surprisingly new-XCOM-ish.

He should really drop LSN on mobile, seems a shame it’s lost to time and servers.

This looks pretty neat though.

I'm a muppet and grabed the collectors edition and will have access to the backer build in just under 17 hours. IT's going to be only tactical stuff from what I glanced at but that is really fine for me. Nothing can get spoiled story etc that way for now :)

Just got to get around to trying it though :P

Aye it's really nice. Just did the already shown map and had 3 of my guys killed and the fourth stuck down in the middle of the map unable to heal or move on after killing the bigger mob from bleed effects

So is it random or scripted like the recent XCOM games?

That is where I have struggled with those titles, having my tactics messed up by spawns rather than the XCOM of old where you could ensure that a tactical advance would maximise your safety.

I'm pretty sure I read that it didn't have enemies spawning in like XCOM. Could be wrong though.

This is why I had 100 times more fun with Xenonauts than the new XCOM games.

I really like the sound of the mechanics, being able to target specific parts of the enemy, shooting round shields and persistent bullets all sound great.

Aye Snowy there is no spawning nonsense in this game.

You can get into the builders for a mere £21 from here https://buy.phoenixpoint.info/

Limited to a random map generated and the one shown in the first post. Also will be on steam/GOG near release if you rather wait :)

Went to both of Julian Gollop's developer sessions at EGX last year and thought this looked rather interesting. I can see why it's still a long way off though, the tactics battle system might have been fairly far along but they'd barely made a start on the overworld part of the game. He is very keen on the simulation aspects of his games and talked a fair bit about how there will be various factions all working completely independently of you, a little like Civilization, but it was incredibly basic placeholder stuff that he was showing off at the time.

Oh you jammy sod. Would love to give him a handshake in real life just from the amount of hours I've spent in X-com.
