And thinking about it I'd sooner chew my own leg off.

I suspect the major reason people wanted the vanilla servers was to play WoW for free...
Money on the table, extra up front cost or increased monthly sub to pay for it?? :)

And on the particular topic, the intro cinematic for the new expansion is pretty much terrible too.

Lost too much of my life to WoW in the past, no more. [-X

Yeah, this. People remember the boss fights and the triumphs, they don't remember the requirement that you sit down to drink and regain mana every time you cast a buff. Everything in Vanilla WoW was slow, and frequently boring and unpolished. This is basically for masochists.

I actually really prefer the old wow to what they have now. I played the unoffical vanilla wow servers till i realized they were rampant with corrupt mods. May end up playing some wow with the wife again

More or less the same. I've cut it back substantially for the most part the last couple of years (it crept up a bit in September/October with some releases I'd had my eyes on for a long time admittedly) and is now mostly tolerated when I spend an hour or two gaming. But it's definitely resulted in a few rows down the years.

That must suck when your life partner merely 'tolerates' you putting an hour or two into one of your main hobbies.

All evening three times a week.
Was agreed as a thing I would be doing like a month into us dating :)

Has remained so ever since. Never caused an argument and if ever does I have 10 years of standing occasion to back it up :D

Edit: that being said, I suspect when kids turn up this might change a bit......

Yeah I cut it back also massively. Thing is when my first marriage went down the toilet about 14 years ago I took to playing counter strike and such. I wasn't much of a gamer before then but I got into it and it gave me a better option than pissing my wages up the wall when i was in the pits about everything. I can cope with doing this much less but damnit she doesn't half moan. Maybe she's right.

I don't want to be a debbie downer, but there have definitely been points in my life where I can now recognise that I had an addiction. Prompted a lot of self-examination and the like. I mainly keep it under control these days, but if there are signs of it ramping up again it doesn't go down too well.

I don't want to give the wrong impression of my wife, either. She has the patience of a saint and it takes a lot to make her say 'enough'.
