Re: Dawn of War III Announcement Trailer (Release 2017)

Multiplayer is going down the three-lane-push-the-core route. I can see that they've gone for this style to try and lure in the huge moba crowd, but I'm still pretty disappointed by that fact. I was hoping for a more classic RTS style that conjured up feelings of the first game.

Add that to a number of other things that have put me off with each successive announcement and I find myself not really wanting to purchase a copy anymore. Particularly because you just know that with only 3 races on launch you're going to be paying £15 per shot for each DLC one that comes out. Total Warhammer is something like £90 if you want to try all the different DLC.

Thanks, Sega.

It's out April 27th.

IGN have given this game 7/10, probably because whoever is reviewing the game is shit at it.

This came out today. Currently £29.99 on CDKeys, or £39.99 on Steam if you're a chump.

I am sorted of tempted by it just because I love this franchise.

The usual deluge of rubbish gaming websites:
Gamespot 8/10
Polygon 8/10

Not reviewing so well with Steam users but then there is a lot of toxicity in the community because of how they've effectively turned the skirmishes into MOBA-lite.

Jesus, okay I'll pass after all. The multiplayer has 3 maps and they are all symmetrical DotA style affairs where you have to push a lane to destroy generators and subsequently the enemy core. There's almost no room for interesting tactics or playstyles, it's just a MobA with Warhammer 40k units. I didn't realise it was quite that limited to the extent that you were just funneling units down identical narrow corridors.

They were really desperate to turn this into an esport weren't they.

Has a different take on the multiplayer. Doesn't sound that MOBA-like, more MOBA inspired.

The heavy MP focus and uninspired SP elements have decided me against it. Never was much of an RTS fan, but DOW 1 & 2 were fun played in co-op.

Taking MOBA style objectives on board isn't really a bad thing in and of itself. It's the fact that there's only 3 maps and seemingly very little difference between any of the 3 races that looks super uninspiring. It would get very dull very quickly I think. Add in to that Sega's awful DLC platform and you'll be buying extra races at £10 a pop every time.
