I haven't experienced anything game breaking, though I'd be the wrong person to talk to regarding the minutiae of unit damage issues or whatever. There are some pretty long load times to get into the campaign but from there everything is pretty swift to get going.

And I do a few reviews etc there (i'm technically the second most senior person there but... eh), though I've mostly been concentrating on video content at the moment (we have a guy in the Legion alpha/beta that I edit for as well as some Battlefleet gothic stuff and other bits and pieces) and streaming rather than the written word. I'm hoping to have a short "first impressions" video up for this tonight :)

It's definitely light on the management side, but what is there provides enough flavor to feel like you can tailor your civ to your tastes, working up the tech tree etc. It feels a bit trial and error at the moment, kinda like getting into a Civ game, so I'm yet to perfect a tech tree and build priority :P But there's certainly lots of battles to be had! You also can't sustain very many armies by the looks of things so you are much more incentivised to just deathball it around with a couple of big 'uns.
IMO :P  :P  :P

Yeah, 2 out of the 3 main TW games since then were catastrophes - Empire and Rome 2. Inbetween though, Shogun 2 was a masterpiece they somehow managed to get pretty much perfect on release. Wonderful game and my joint favourite of the series alongside Med1.

I do like how this is coming across like a proper Warhammer Fantasy Battle reproduction, and not just Rome 2 with some different skins (which is what I was worried about early on). So I'm not bothered at all about missing the economy side of things.

I'm looking forward to giving this a go.

Yeah it's definitely a fantastic reproduction of the tabletop units.

Although I had a fight with some orks, and they stayed back and held the high ground instead of charging down the hill towards me... Very un-orcy...

Won't be playing this for a while as I'll be on holiday and then Hearts of Iron IV is out, but does it matter that I know nothing about Warhammer?

Medieval 2 was a thing of beauty and one of the very few games that I go back to again and again. Rome I also loved, although Rome 2 was a miss for me, as was Shogun 2 funnily enough (just didn't do it for me - I have to love the setting I think and while evocative, feudal Japan is not a society I know enough about the history of to have my interest tickled).

Feel the same as Snowy re Shogun. Rome and European medieval periods are really where my interests lie. I'd have picked up Rome 2 but for all the reports about how shoddy it was compared to the first (my personal favourite TW due largely to the setting). I've heard it's not as bad now, but feel like the moment has passed, and I don't have as much free time for gaming as I used to.

Oh yeah, in terms of setting there's always a question of individual preference. But on a technical level, Shogun 2 was first class on release - the other 2 were mostly broken.

Pretty much par for the course with Total War titles.

That said, I have never really noticed. I enjoy the battles then hear the webrage about the AI, ballistics, whatever and am just :-s and keep on having fun.

I'm already getting bored of this. It doesn't feel too much like a Total War game anymore - feels more like that old King Arthur Roleplaying Wargame, but with more polish.
