Coming "Fall" 2014

Preview:
-You'll go beyond earth as the title implies, making it more like Alpha Centauri.
- Out this Autumn
- You start on an alien world
- There are three types of worlds: Lush, Airy and Fungal
- You'll still be building cities like in CIv V but to expand to other planets you'll use outposts.
- You can be the first to explore a new planet and you may find some neutral creatures/races on those worlds. You can either destroy them or leave them be.
- Relics are still in.
- You can win the game by returning to earth.
- You can use diplomacy with other players right from the start.
- Fog of War is still present
- There are now orbital units that you can command like satellites.

Civs! In! Spaaaaaace!

A follow up to Alpha Centauri!? I was just saying to somebody the other day how much I wished that they'd make another one.

Excited.

I'd guess more CivV with an expanded space exploration theme.

What's tripping me out is that 18 rating. It's only provisional and could still drop, but PEGI must have seen something pretty raw to make that guess.

Edit: And how long till an Xcom reference drops?

Ooooh yer bugger. Everytime I think I am getting bored of Civ, something new comes out. I am so getting this.

This looks very interesting, but I hope it is more than just a re-skinned CIV V. One of the major appeals of Alpha Centuri was that is was different to ordinary Civ.

Hmm. It's just looking like a Civ 5 mod to me at the moment. I was initially really excited by this but now I'm not so sure.

I dare say I'll get it at some point (i.e. Steam sale), but I don't think the alien setting will grab me as much as the real world setting. Alpha Centurai never did for me.

There does seem to be a real fear that this is just a re-skinned Civ game. I've always been more interested in the real world setting of Civ games rather than fantasy or sci-fi stuff so this is going to have to be significantly different to a normal Civ game to make me buy it. Civ in sci-fi clothing is not very appealing.

Another unflattering preview.

So Firaxis are either holding back from preview builds the stuff that makes the game less like Civ for some spurious reason, or this game really is just Civ in a different skin.
