Football Manager 2013

Postby Me » Mon Oct 22, 2012 9:27 pm

So, anyone got this yet? Has loads of little improvements as normal, like you can set the default views on players back to attributes ^_^

Playing as Liverpool, and boy do they have a shit team. Oh for the days there was Alonso, Masch, Torres and Gerrard at his peak.

I have this, currently playing the beta. I have to say that I hate the default skin in the Football Manager game. It's so bright, I am hoping someone will create a nice new dark skin to cover it up to protect my poor sensitive eyes! The Football Manager Classic mode sounds good, and although a lot of people have complained about the "cheats" system that will get released, I am actually looking forward to having my in-game "son" playing for my super team! Just a little perk to make things more interesting in Classic mode, as it does feel incredibly bare compared to the "Normal" mode.

I started my Football Manager game as unemployed, I have to say this game is very boring when you have no job. So I stopped waiting for someone to come to me, and applied for the Stalybridge manager job (Blue Square North), and they gave me a contract 4 days before the first competitive game of the season. I won the first 6 games in the Blue Square North, and then was brought straight back down to earth with 3 losses on the bounce. The next 4 games were draw, win, draw, loss. Sitting in 3rd position 2 points off the top, my policy apparently is "Score one more than you."

I have downloaded some graphics packs for the game too, and I definitely recommend the Metallic Logos Megapack. It adds.... well Metallic Logos to EVERYTHING, almost every team, countries, flags, cups, leagues, and much more, it's so great and just gives it that extra touch to the game. I also downloaded the Short Sleeve Kits pack for the Premiership and Championship which is another nice touch. This picture is what I see for Liverpool (Ignore the players, I'm playing with random players) Like I said, if you can be bothered to sort it out (took me a good 45 minutes) then it is well worth it.

Installed the beta recently but I've only played it for about 10 minutes so far. Got a bit fed up with the personalisation interview with the assistant manager at the start.

One thing that kinda grates for me now is that when you start a game, you have to go through the whole rigmarole of being a new manager. I've been managing City since I was 16, give me some respect! Can't I just play as Mancini and be done with it? >_>

Think this will be the first one I don't buy. I just don't have the time any more, barely played FM2012 (by previous standards at least). I'm sure it's still great, just don't know when I'd find the time.

Apparently that's what the classic mode's all about. Quicken's things up and plays more like the champ manager of old. The adverts on the telly pretty much says it's for those who don't have the time like they used to - "GOT BABIES AND CHORES TO DO?" etc.

I might give that a go even though I'm sat on my arse around he clock. ¬_¬

Oh god no, I have put 354 hours into 2012. Don't make me start again and get a new one. :(

Been playing a bit of this, been pondering over what to say, to be honest.

I spent most of the first several hours learning my way around the interface - various bits of info have been moved around, and initially it was a bit frustrating to find what I was looking for. It's all there, though, it's just a case of getting used to it.

Training has been much simplified - rather than creating half a dozen different schedules, each with 8 or so sliders to painstakingly position, you now just choose an area you want one player to focus on (like finishing, or tackling), or if they don't have any particular weaknesses you can just set them to concentrate on their tactical roles. Five minutes, bang, training done. You can set a different priority for the week, but to be honest i've just let my assistant do that.

Tactics system and setting is virtually identical to FM 2012, which is to say it's a very good, flexible system, and at the touch of a button you can see how suited a particular player is for the role you're asking him to play.

The match engine - after 2-3 games, I would have said it was flawless, but the longer I play it, the more annoyances I find. My players just won't attack a loose ball, most actively run away from them, in fact. Today I conceded one goal where a ball ran loose towards my goal, about 40 yards out. My midfielder initially went for it, but abruptly stopped running. My two centre-backs were back-pedalling furiously away from it. Completely unmarked, the opposition striker latched onto it, sprinted towards my goal - at which point one of my CBs lunged at him in the 6-yard box, and hammered the ball into his own net.

Exactly the same thing happened in the next match.

Attackers can veer from slick 10-pass moves to passing the ball straight to the opposition for no apparent reason.

The biggest annoyance I've found, though, is the player mentalities. No matter what I say in team talks, even if it's calmly asking them to do this for the fans, it pisses them off. Some players are furious at being told to keep things tight in the second half when we're leading 1-0 away from home. In about 10 matches now, I've never once had a positive effect on a player during a team talk, but many negative reactions along the lines I've just described.

During a match, half my players are either 'looking complacent' or 'looking anxious', none ever seem motivated or confident, even after scoring a hat-trick (in previous versions, if a player scored a goal they 'looked full of confidence' for the rest of the match, and played the better for it).

I find myself not enjoying it as much as previous versions for those reasons, and hopefully they're niggles that can be patched.

If I had to recommend a FM game to a newbie, I'd still have to lump for FM2012, I think.
