Broken Sword 5

Postby DjchunKfunK » Thu Aug 23, 2012 1:49 pm

Charles Cecil and Revolution Software have taken to Kickstarter to try and get $400,000 to help finish off development of Broken Sword: The Serpent's Curse. The game is already 6 months into production and is a return to 2D, but with 3D animated characters and Nicole and George make a return. You can watch the pitch video and support the project here and I think some of the reward tiers are pretty generous when compared to other Kickstarters.

I hope they hit their target, and judging by the popularity of the series I think they will, as I would love a new Broken Sword.

"Paris in the Spring..."

Like the look of it. Really do. Hopefully, it'll be as good as the original. Not sure whether I'd prefer 2D full, or the mix of 2D backgrounds and 3D characters. But meh - it looks like it's getting to the core of the old games, and the humour.

Not so many block-pushing puzzles this time, please.

Already over half-way and it's only been up a few days. Looking forward to seeing what kind of stretch goals they are going to add.

Btw did anyone complete the fourth game? I upgraded before I had the chance and the game does not like multi-core systems. There is a work around, but don't know if it is worth the hassle. Anyone played it and if so is it worth playing? Bear in mind that I enjoyed the third game despite the move to 3D.

I didn't even know there was a fourth one - I must have just ignored it when it came out. Sleeping Dragon was the last one I played.

I loved the first two, and the third was ok.... I did play the fourth but never finished it. It was completely charmless.

Yeah, I finished the fourth but can barely remember it at all. Something about the Vatican? Completely average I suppose.

Did enjoy the first three though.

This is identical to my experience.

Cutscenes look robotic as fuck, but the actual gameplay looks like a very nice mixture of the classic and the newer broken swords. I guess i never played it for the graphics though. God damn I love the first two games so much I hope they can even get half of the magic back.

I really don't like the graphics for the cutscenes. They look like those really terrible 90s Saturday cartoons when 3D animation was still basic.

The graphics do look a bit strange in cut-scenes, but I think they will be fine once the voice-overs are added.

Can't believe I didn't back this. Will definitely buy it when it comes out.

December 4th

Backers will be able to download the game on the day.

They have also said that due to the amount of support they received they have been able to make two separate episodes, the second of which backers will get for free when it is released in January. They claim that each episode is a full game in it's own right and hopefully they are. It would be a bit of a shame if they had split the game into two chunks. Here's hoping that the first episode is of a good length.

EDIT: It's £9.99 per episode or £14.99 for both. You will be able to order it from Steam, GOG or Revolution's own website.

For that price it's definitely bought. i just hope it's more on par with the first two as for me Broken Sword stopped being good after Smoking Mirror.
