Rome 2: Total War - Attila is Coming!

Postby Prey » Mon Jun 25, 2012 7:54 pm

In the latest issue of PC PowerPlay (the same magazine that revealed Dark Souls PC edition), there is a teaser for the next issue and it is a picture of Rome: Total War. So it is believed that this will be for an announcement for Rome 2: Total War:

I'm getting confused with all these Total War games. I thought there was a Rome 2. -_-

Rome was always my favourite even though it could be a bit broken at times. Considering everything else has had a sequel it was inevitable really.

I just can't go back to Rome after Shogun 2, it's laughably broken in comparison. But with all the massive improvements they made in Shogun 2 re-applied to a Rome setting again? That would be awesome. :D

I'd buy that for a dollar.

Or thirty quid.

Why use a screenshot of the original game for the tease though? The big Roman numeral 2 would've sufficed surely.

I wish they'd do a Fantasy: Total War already!

Or maybe a sci-fi themed one - but something new anyway!

I still think I prefer Rome of all the TW games - not really tried Shogun 2 much - it killed my system pre-upgrade. Might give it another look in!

Rome is my favourite TW game, from the period of history I'm most interested in. I'd jump straight into a proper remake with both feet.

TRIARII!

Sorry, as soon as I hear the words Rome: Total War my triarii unit always checks in in my brain :)

Would be interested in this - but... I bought Shogun 2, and it just hasn't clicked for me at all. Barely a few hours put into it, it just didnt grab me, same as Empire didn't.

Medieval 2 is where it is at for me.

Much excite! still haven't played Shotgun II though :(

I really wish they'd nailed Empire properly though. Napoleon was much improved, but if only they had those mechanics in the empire setting!

I think, objectively, S2 is the best TW. They've got the campaign ai to be challenging and relatively sensible and the battle ai not doing anything completely retarded (suicide generals in rome or unresponsive in M2) and i've had a great time with the game.

That said i just can't stand the new warscape battle engine. I don't like how it looks, i don't like how it can't handle the terrain or the animations of units so we have pretties over functionality and how melee is about duelling, the cones of fire and height no longer confers range bonuses. I made peace with it for Napoleon and heavily modded i think that game is great but Shogun battles just felt wrong and for the most part i didn't enjoy them. The new campaign engine may be an improvement over Rome's hidden tiles but the battle engine is a step back. Just look at the fantastic city scapes it was able to render in M2 or the epic volcanic hillsides of Rome compared to the same banal maps of shogun that are regurgitated with a different background.

I love the period of Rome and think its ideal for the TW series especially now they've gone past 20v20 battles and there's a possibility of more asymmetric warfare. Since they seem to be bringing modding back into the fold (they're holding a workshop for modders at the moment) i'm doubly excited at the prospect of a RTR 2.

I look forward to this if it turns out to be the case! I have loved all of the Total Wars.

Medieval is still my favourite.

Installed it a few days and after some bother, got it working. It's just sublime.

Medieval 2 messed up the traits and RPG elements but perhaps I'll give it another go. Really liked Empire as a change. Haven't had a chance with Shogun 2 yet.
