They certainly held out a lot longer than many expected.

despite playing 'Skyrim' for the last three years due to the sheer amount of modded content, this never really grabbed my attention.

They do know how to produce wonderful trailers though.

Three-ish months out. I demand you eat some kind of headwear.

Ah shit. :(

The announcement of F2P was 9 months after release, does that count?

Ah well, in March I may take a look, just cancelled my WoW sub again as am terminally bored with it.

The game went free to play yesterday. It's not your normal free to play, you still need to buy the base client, but there is no longer a requirement to have a subscription. They also released a big new patch that among other things added burglary into the game.

Patch Notes

Anyone planning to check it out?

EDIT: I've just done a quick check to see how much it costs to get the game and the cheapest price seems to be £40. The prices seem to have gone back up now it is free to play. That is hardly going to entice a load of new people to the game.

Don't all rush at once!

Can honestly say I have no intention of checking this out, even if they made it entirely free.

I nearly dithered on this earlier but it still seems a bit pump from the readings of it I've done.

Yeah, the initial reviews indicated some glaring faults that seemed to be features rather than bugs. I'll consider it if I ever see the pack priced reasonably (ie: £10 or less); I always used to love trying new MMOs.

It's a shame really like many of its ilk rich single player history or movie history or just plain great ideas that get developed into anaemic buggy samey shit. I sometimes wonder how they can get it wrong with the franchises involved.

I say it here now the single best mmo I ever played was Eve online. I tried most of them and by a country mile it wins for me.

Anyways cogitation over from me back to normal scheduling :)

Agree with that - EVE remains the only MMO I've enjoyed a significant amount of time in, despite trying many.

ESO could have been reasonable if they'd made more sensible design decisions or if the Elder Scrolls single player team had been given some involvement (although I'm glad they weren't sullied with it). I'm still baffled by some of the design choices they made, like the skill system. Would it really have been so difficult to implement something similar to the SP games, or at least a skill system in the same spirit? Could they not have attempted a more open world rather than a smattering of linked areas? If they'd had some ambition and it hadn't quite worked, I still would have respected them for trying. I might even have bought it.

Roll on Elder Scrolls VI.
